It may be simply overheating due to build up of dust/fluff etc. preventing adequate airflow over the CPU. Some laptops are worse than other for this as they have the input vent underneath and users often put them on soft surfaces like beds etc. If it is due to overheating, get an air duster and blow the crap out e.g. here You may be surprised what comes out!

If you have never set a password, return should work.

There's lots of possible causes, but a couple of things to try:

Are the on-board graphics drivers the latest available for your OS? While you're on the laptop makers' website you may as well download the latest drivers for all of the motherboard devices.

Do you have a memory problem? Download memtest and run it for a while.

    http://www.memtest.org/

You can quite easily remove a Windows admin password with this:

    http://home.eunet.no/pnordahl/ntpasswd/

Beware though if it's a laptop provided for work, as you may find that resetting admin passwords is a disciplinary offence!

You can download all you need onto the PC you're using now and transfer it onto the laptop with a pendrive, a CD-R or over the network.

I can highly recommend https://www.ccleaner.com to fix anything bug like or registry related.

It's not likely to fix this problem though! Good but it can't work miracles.

try and back up any data you think is important .
Do this first ...Other than having a look around for dust piled in the cooling fans .
Then at least you have everything you need if it gets worse.
