dog not being taken for walk

Thank you for the Cinnamon Trust reference. I'd never considered this before.
I have a 4 year old Bichon Frise that is walked 3 times a day and would be happy to include another dog from my area on his main walk early evening time. I've emailed the Trust to see if they operate in my area and will let you know how I get on.
For anyone that may be needing help in the South Manchester area feel free to PM me and perhaps we can come to an arrangement?
Good luck to the OP.0 -
Do you do anything for your dog's mental stimulation? This can be as important as taking him for a walk and he will love it. There are a lot of things on the market such as 'buster cubes' where you put their food in and they have to roll it round and round to get it out; kongs are another favourite; you could hide food round the room and get him to find it - just a few ideas. There is also a doggy forum you can join for lots of other doggy related advice and support. PM me if you would like details.YOUR = belonging to you (your coat); YOU'RE = you are (I hope you're ok)
really....it's not hard to understand :T0 -
dont give your dog away simply by not being able to give him walks! i know of many who dont get walked, but do have big enough and plenty of access to gardens. you not being able to walk him is not a valid reason as far as im concerned, do you have any nephews or neices, or any neighbours you could trust just to walk him a little maybe? x0

Thank you so much for all your kind offers of walking my dog (if i had friends locally like you i probably wouldnt be so depressed). I am in the East Midlands so dont think i am local to any of you who offered.
I did buy a Kong toy for him but although he loved it to start with he soon lost interest. The same with ball games, I throw the ball the first time and he gallops after it but he is not interested in it after that. When I did take him for walks he didnt get that much exercise I suppose as he just wanted to sniff and look for food (he is obsesseed with food). He gets his exercise in the garden when he spies next doors cat and runs up and down the garden trying to get to it but that is all. I continue to feel guilty but maybe in the future I will get better and be able to take him out again.0 -
Have you tried two balls?
Most dogs just hate not having what you have so throw one, then when he gets it - throw the other. This usually is enough to get a dog interested in bring the ball back quickly so as he can get the ball you now have. Give it a try0 -
Please don't worry about not walking him it may sound bad but my mum had 2 dogs and only ever took them for a walk as a treat and i mean like twice a year lol i wouldn't reccomend it but it never did them any harm first one lived till the ripe old age of 16 and the second dog is a retriever still going at 11. It's just that she has always worked and doesn't have the time but loves them too much. better to be loved and allowed fun in the garden. Has your dog got teddies? i found they love any teddies as long as they don't have beads etc and rip them to pieces by pulling the stuffing out now thats entertainment!0

Please please don't feel you should give up your baby cos you are ill. This dog loves you and you are his world and he won't understand if you give him up that you are trying to do the best by him. He will see it as abandonment as dogs cannot reason in the same way we do. His love for you is probably the most important thing in his whole life.
Dogs need excercise but he isn't being trapped indoors, he is obviously getting out in the garden and having a run about. If he was distressed by this you would have seen changes in his behaviour.
Have you tried tuggy rope? My lab cross loves it, it is his favourite game by far. It tires him out pretty quick and doesn't involve leaving the garden. I did this when I was on crutches with my leg in plaster when my OH went away with work. He didn't seem to mind not going out as the tuggy rope exhausted him and I could do it from sitting in the chair.
Mine also loves kongs, but his favourite thing in the world is to be cuddled up to his mummy and daddy on the sofa while we fuss him. I am sure he would give up all his walks to keep his cuddles!0 -
my aunt had agrophobia - i was too young to know too much about it apart from 'they' recomended she get a dog - which she did & eventualy she felt guilty about not walking him, she tried.. got as far as the gate lol - but next night (or maybe next week - i was small) it was the corner, & soon she was bringing him round to us - a few streets away. I remember because I was sent to help her at about 8-9yrs old when she was 'stuck' in the telephone booth over the road from us, she had tried to go to the shop but couldnt make it ....still not sure if she was coming or going. loved her to pieces - she taught me to say rhinocerous !I THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I KnowSupermarket Rebel No 19:T0

Just a quickie to let you know that I contacted the Cinnmon Trust about doing something in my area and they've got back to me and were thrilled that I wanted to help.
Apparently there are needy dogs and owners in South Manchester too!
Just thought I'd let the OP know so you know you're not alone and there are tons of people in your situation and also others willing to help.
Good luck - looking forward to meeting my new Mancunian furry friend! (Don't know whether my dog is though!)0
