I had a laugh to myself when I saw a guy in a flash new Porsche, in the Clifton area, getting pulled over for a dirty number plate...maybe he's spent so much on the car, he can't afford to wash it.
You near me then?
Are the Bristol Police that good?0 -
i know exactly what you mean Paul, but can you honestly tell me ,when you turn into a road - you KNOW what the speed limit is ? somtimes its 30 (lamp post both side / build up area blah blah ..) but sometimes its 20! sometimes its 40 , 50 !!! some 50 - i thought anyway is in fact 30 !! ! i am NOT asking for symphathy or excuse here , i am asking for HELP!
BTW , i do 60k mile /yr and i cant afford to loose my license.
If you turn into a road where the speed limit has changed then there should be road signs to indicate this, if not then you would have a case to dispute a fine0 -

They are not " stupid " answers, anybody that needs a Sat Nav to tell them the correct speed, shouldn't even be driving.:rolleyes:0 -
get the speed camera updates for your Tom Tom .It will mean you have to log onto the website once a month .This will list all the fixed and mobiles locations for that month .
If you look through display settings you can get a display of the limit for the road you are on to be displayed on the bar below the map on your Tom Tom .0 -

Sorry, i couldnt resist the little prod!
I'd be surprised if every town you come into doesnt have the 30's up on the way in, and i guess you would have to assume it is a 30 rather than a 40 and thus not take any chances.
Personally, i use cruise control when i'm in a 30. My run from where i live into town consists of me pulling out of my street, getting to 40mph, clicking onto cruise control for the forty, then when i get to the 30mph, two clicks back to drop to the 30mph.
Pretty sad way to have to drive, but using cruise control in every 30mph zone where possible, is a habit i've got into and its worked for me so far.0 -

I'm not sure they're always that good, as I try and keep my car clean, but I did see the aforementioned guy pulled over on Whiteladies Road in his designer shades discussing the point with the police officer.
I guess if you're driving late at night or through non-residential areas (this was a busy street at lunchtime) you're probably less likely to get caught.
It's still illegal though.0 -

If you come off a motorway at a junction within the city limits, then there tends not to be a 30 sign up, though you are to 'assume' its a 30.0 -

Trying to drive at 30mph in 4th/5th involves a lot more checking of your speedo.
I mean surely cruise control only helps if it's an empty (or continuously moving) street? If you have to speed up or slow down to allow for other cars/pedestrians, it wouldn't help you.0
