negotiating a payment plan - any tips for dealing with orange collections?

For reasons that were unavoidable I managed to run up a huge bill last month - not too far from £1000. I'm not looking for sympathy and I don't want to dispute the charges but there is no way I can pay this back all in one go. I spoke briefly to someone in collections who was talking about paying £200 - £250 back per month. Now the most I can possibly pay is £100 and this is pushing it. So what I want to know is how much room do I have for negotiation. Will they accept this or just pass things onto debt collection which will only add to the charges? I have to call them tomorrow and work something out. I'd rather do this armed with a little knowledge and avoid being pushed into a corner. Any advice will be very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Have you applied for a credit card to clear the debt? Payments for 1k would be around 30pm, if you can do it @ 100 month it would incur quite little interest. You may be able to get a bit written off - e.g. my mum said she can lend me 800 to clear it? you never know!0
