Problem Neighbours... Help !!

Options
HELP !

We will be moving early next Spring and have sort of got some 'problem neighbours'.

I don't want to get into trouble filling in sellers forms incorrectly, but there are a few things I'd like to 'omit'....

We live in a small block of flats....16 in all.. we are all Private Owners, with shared responsibility for most things.
Thankfully, we don't have any serious money/manangment issues... but several of us have had ' complaints ' issued to the management from the same neighbour.

Shortly after moving in here 2 years ago, we had a letter from THE NEIGHBOURS stating that we ' were unsightly compromise' to the prevoius good nature of the complex' !! And how we have lowered the tone of the neighbourhood !! What ????

We both go to work in suits, 'dress down' at weekends.. jeans etc...
Both have OK cars, v. quiet, make no noise.... easy going... happy to help out.... kind, generous , no parties, drink very little.... etc..etc..

No idea why he has come to this conclusion... (Prevoius owner a footballer... not that it should make the slightest difference). Other people in the building have mixed jobs....

TO TELL OR NOT TO TELL ?

Other ' complaints ' issued have been...

Window frames painted in the wrong shade of white...
Front door too 'glossy'... wanted less shiny paint....
Birds pooing on their cars....(their car spaces are below the trees)
Birds making too much niose...contacted environmantal health...
Our dear pensioner neighbour banned from feeding the birds/squirrels...
Tree blocking their view of the wall !! (THIS WAS A GOOD ONE !!)
Lawnmower too noisy... couldn't concentrate working from home....

I'm sure there have been others .. just can't remember them all right now...

The only 'complaint' against us has been regarding our 'looks'.... so... how do you think I should handle this one ?

Q. Guess what they both do for a living ?
A. Both of them are Psychiatrists!!!

No kidding, Didn't believe it when I found out, so I checked them out on the GMC register !!!

Any advice will be greatly appreciated....

If you pop over the thread on Depression you will find at least two us who would not be surprised to find out that the people you are talking about are psychiatrists.

Not sure what Environmental Health can do to prevent 'birds making too much noise'! Too much noise as in a lovely blackbird's song? Or to prevent birds pooing on cars. Birds poo wherever they please! It's a bit of a pain when they've been eating elderberries so you get purple streaks down the outside walls and on the car...but birds are birds! Wild creatures by definition!

Your neighbours can be reassured - many species of birds are in severe decline, even the once-common house sparrow, the little 'Cockney spadge'. So if they prevent people like the old lady feeding the birds, the decline will go on. Some species of wildlife are only surviving because humans are giving them a helping hand - amphibians and garden ponds, for example. The decrease in ponds in the countryside mean that garden ponds are an important resource for amphibians like the common frog. So your neighbours could be said to be assisting in the decline of British wildlife - maybe something they'd be proud of? There are people around whose whole idea of something green would be concrete painted green, not a field, a tree or a hedge!

    Sorry, can't suggest anything helpful.

  • It sounds like he is either a serial complainer or has mental health issues - or both!

Unless you have either directly or indirectly had problems with him which have been documented anywhere else then I can't see what there is to disclose.

Another person might view him differently to you and consider him either worse than you suggest or not as bad.

If he expects the neighbours to toilet train passing birds then it sounds to me like he's the one of his tree!

Sound like they are a petty minded pair of Tos***s
    Ignor them
I did an Extension for a Psycho once (What a pain in the A*r*). In my opion they should be put in a straight jacket a carted away to the Funny farm and let all the normal people out.

    Don't worry about it

P.S Were these official complaints, or just writen complaints by them.

He's not doing anything wrong to you directly, ie loud music / rubbish over the fence etc. So maybe you don't need to. And he might find the next occupant to be more suitable!

What happens if they challenge your answers though, and it is decided you weren't honest. Because the evidence of the complaints is there, with the management company. Might end up costly.

What do the questions actually say? It sounds like you have to be very sure of the question wording.

Wow, he better not come and live next door to us then, what will these strange people think if a family move in next door! They certainly should not be living in a flat complex, better off living in a lighthouse - oh perhaps not, seagulls can be noisy neighbours too.
    keep smiling,

  • Oh my God!
I am sorry I havent really got anything helpful to say but I am shocked that these people are medical professionals. Sounds like they are the ones that need assistance. They obviously havent got anything better to do either!

Don't envy your position though, bit of a tricky one. I would agree with what waterbaby said in how are the questions worded, and how much documentation have the management company got to support any complaints. I do feel though that if the complaints have never been dealt with (as there was nothing to deal with) there probably isn't a need to disclose them. Never been in this situation though.......
  • Well I would just ignore them the sad bassas, you have done nothing wrong don`t let them get to you,I know it`s easier to say that but why should they try to upset you for nothing.

They are taking the p**s,probably having a laugh,at your expense, personally I would have a word with the cretons.

    Absolutely!

These people don't realise how lucky they are if all they have to complain about are aesthetic things.
