Replacement birth certificate

I've had to do this twice now because a firm lost it when I had to send it as proof for something. The only sad thing is that the certificate will have the date from now rather then the original0

I left school three years ago, and I never receieved certificates for my GCSEs, As or A Levels, I only ever got the piece of paper on the day. Would I still be able to just ring my old school and ask them to source them out for me? Are there any other ways?
