If you can get it so that when it moves it makes the contact, then it's possible that it will then stay on for the required amount of time, it might be releasing after 1 second because it hasn't made the contact. See what you can do and I'll see what I can find out.

My advice, get a Haynes Manual - well worth £15 - the garages charge more than that / hour of work so pays for itself in no time at all!!!

    Perfect for mechanic-phobics like me!!!

just tried pushing the B contact up so that it will touch the C point...it just wont go up...the gap remains the same...

Just found out that there is a pre heating box attached to the expansion bottle which takes the under bonnet ambient temperature for duration of glow. You might want to look at replacing this first, possible from a scrap car if you can find one.

what i could probably also do is (temporary job), may sound funny :

    1. permanently solder the C plate and the B point...
    2. solder 1 wire to the C plate, another wire to the the B point and take those wires through the engine into the dashborad near the steering...so everytime we need to start the car, i could turn ignition on, touch those 2 wires for 10 secs and the start the engine...isnt it ?

all this coz we dont know what the problem could be, we have pre-heating unit and relay unit and either could be faulty or maybe both could be faulty...isnt it ? but pls do tell me the location of the pre-heating unit..i will try to locate it...thks much

If you can find the header tank or expansion tank for the radiator, it should be attached to that!

The problem with running a wire to the dashboard is it is a high current circuit so you run the risk of the wire or your car going up in flames!! It would be much safer to just open the bonnet and either close the contact with a screwdriver or run a lead from the battery to the glow plugs for the 10secs that you need it. Once the engine is warmed up you shouldn't need it at all.

i see...I AM JUST SO SO CONFUSED...things that seem close enough arent really close, i thought i was close to sorting this out but now we have the pre-heating thingy...LOL...

but what my confusion is...lets say its the pre-heating unit faulty...but the plate C (in the relay) and the point B DONT TOUCH AT ALL...unless they are pushed or forced together...you see

If it was me, Id go to your local scrapyard and get both bits for about £10. It's hard from here too because I can't see if the relay would work if it had the correct input voltage from the pre heating unit.

Have you identified which pins on the relay get fed 12v when the ignition is switched on (ie from the pre heating circuit, not the feed that goes on to the glow plugs) ? If you have, then try providing a direct 12v feed to that from the battery, if the relay still doesn't close then it needs replacing.

If after replacing the relay it still only closes for 1 sec, then you also need the pre heater.

I'll go and ask more questions for you.
