in the leicester area theres a place called babygear which is, i believe, a care in the community project. basically they accept all items of baby gear (excluding silver cross prams) and the care in the community workers, clean them, do them up etc. these are then passed on to low income families. via agencies such as social services, health services, home start, sure start . you can get almost anything there at a small token payment of around £5 (but only if you have a reference from a professional, such as health visitor, home start helper)

in my professional role i have used this agency alot, and find their equipment to be good.
i'm pretty sure this is not just a localised project, so it might be worth ringing your health visitor / social services office etc to see if theres a scheme running in your area

Why not Silver Cross - by far the best make of quality prams IMO

I contacted my health visitor when I wanted to get rid of mine, asked if she knew of anyone that could make use of it. She sent round a girl of 16 who was on baby number 3 who couldn't afford to buy one, she gladly took it off my hands. Was nice to see it go to someone who really needed it.
