here are my tips on how to avoid what has happened with my claim for DLA
Make sure you have a copy of everything
Ask for a copy of the form that is sent to your doctor to complete about you and make sure he has completed it properly and given the correct info.
DLA have to give you a copy of everything they have if you request it
If you have to have a medical, check the info the examining doctor has given.
If you give your GP or anybody else written info, keep a copy
If you speak to anyone about your condition or claim on the telephone, make notes of who you spoke to, when it was and what was said.
I paid £10 to get a copy of my last 7yrs medical notes from my GP as that's how long I have been having and telling him about serious problems and trying to find out what was wrong with me,but when he was asked how my health affected me on the form from DLA he had written''NOT RECORDED'' :rotfl: :rotfl:
I diagnosed myself 5 yrs ago but the medical profession took until february this year to give me the same diagnosis
Basically because it has taken them so long, I have not received the treatment I should have had and the chances of improvement/return to good health have now been significantly lessened and I have just spent a week in hospital seriously ill.
Please get someone like CAB to help you, as I have done it on my own, being naive and thinking that as I was telling the truth that it would all be straightforward and also presuming I could trust my GP etc to do teir jobs properly and complete forms accurately.
HOW WRONG I WAS !!! :mad:The object of life is not to be on the side of the majority, but to escape finding oneself in the ranks of the insane — Marcus Aurelius0 -
Hopefully they'll backdate your payment.
Which rate are you looking to go onto?0 -
I'm not receiving anything at the moment, except incapacity, so here's hoping !!The object of life is not to be on the side of the majority, but to escape finding oneself in the ranks of the insane — Marcus Aurelius0

Sorry to hiajck the thread, but I receive DLA as well and I've noticed I've become worse.
Now, because a lot of it is personal care related and there's nothing none of the specialists can do (they said this to me last year) I don't see anyone to see if they can help me. This means there's no evidence to say that I am getting worse. (well, they have stuff from the physio, but that's about it) If I wrote to the DWP and said I was having problems doing certain tasks, who would they contact about this?0 -

Wouldn't you be able to see your GP?0 -
OP, if you need supervision and guidance outdoors then it seems to me you are already on the right rate for DLA mobility ie Low Rate? High Rate Mobility doesn't mean you are worse, it is a different test re: problems walking, pain, breathlessness etc.
It isn't very common for a DLA award to reduce on asking for a review but it does happen. Unfortunately it is far more likely to happen where the person was already on the right rate to begin with or has made some improvements in another area. Don't mean to be a scaremonger but make sure you get advice next time!"I always pass on good advice. It is the only thing to do with it. It is never of any use to oneself" -Oscar Wilde0 -
I also receive sharp pains in my hips if I walk more than 10 minutes and I could fall or stumble as a resualt. Will still qualified as the low rate?0

umm, tricky one. I would still say yes because to the DWP your need for guidance is greater than your difficulty physically walking-unless the pains are a new problem they don't know about? Contrary to popular opinion High Rate Mobility is quite hard to get and you generally need to be in severe discomfort, stopping, getting short of breath, walking with a stoop etc. Also, a ten minute walk can cover quite a distance (unless youve put you walk very slowly) so this alone would probably stop an award."I always pass on good advice. It's new.
I hope they won't stop my award.0
