Jacamo - Credit search without my consent? Is this ok?

Unbelievable... I ordered a Jacamo catalogue on behalf of my partner... simply for a look, as he has large feet and finds it hard finding nice shoes! However, I received an email today from Credit Expert (as I like to keep an eye on my credit report and score) informing me that Jacamo had performed a credit search. Unfortunately, and whilst I find this behaviour totally unacceptable, it is clearly stated in the T&Cs... however, I neglected to read them. I too have learnt a lesson the hard way... that'll teach me not to be so eager in future!0

When you request a catalogue from Jacamo or one if its associated brands it does say in the small print they will do
a credit search and open you a credit account.
The business have not done anything wrong in reality its the applicant for not reading the "small Print".Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
If you order a next catalogue they charge you something like £3.75 and make an entry on your credit record. Then the keep sending you cataogues that you don't want and bill you for the privilege.0

Because too many searches in a short space of time, can damage your credit status as to lenders it makes them think the person is desperate.
I believe no more than 3 searches in a 6 month period is advised against.0 -
We have been receiving letters from Jacamo for the past few months quoting our correct address but a name we have never heard of.
We know for a fact that no one of the name quoted has lived at our address for twenty years and even longer term residents in the neighbourhood do not recognise the name.
Having returned several letters marked "Not known at this address" we opened the most recent letter to find that they are chasing a debt.
We have never purchased anything from Jacamo and have never been in debt to anyone.
I am worried that this may be a scam and wonder if anyone can advise me on the following.
Will Jacamo's "debt" affect our own credit rating as they are using our address?
Is it safe to call them on the 0844 number quoted in their letter or is this likely to be a scam? It is a different number to that quoted on their website. (An 0871 number)
What is the best way to deal with this?
Any suggestions appreciated.0 -

Your own credit-worthiness will not be affected by this if it is only your address that is recorded on the account."Part P" is not, and has never been, an accredited electrical qualification. It is a Building Regulation. No one can be "Part P qualified."

I'm furious with Jacamo. Their online shopping basket amounts to a con. Something must be done. Please help.
In November I purchased a pair of cheap jeans for about £15, subsequently I received a lot of junk mail from them which went straight in the bin.
It turns out that the 'junk mail' was actually a statement of my account, and I was throwing away a demand for payment (disguised as junk mail).
I recieved a final demand for my original purchase in January, my final demand notice was £60 for late payment charges. I couldn't believe it.
I have no need to pay for anything on account, least of all a £15 pair of jeans.
I had no option but to pay in full on an account I did not want or intend to set up.
I have since done a credit check and discovered a 'late payment' on my record.
I am so upset, and my wife is distraught. We were just looking at moving house to start a family, but now we can't.
I have asked Jacamo, but they say I accepted the terms on their website, although they refunded me the late charges, even though I didn't ask them to? (admission of guilt?)
Experian were very helpful and wrote to Jacamo, but they say the credit mark is valid.
I am now left feeling abused, upset, and with my life plans impacted severely.
I feel so helpless and angry, but I want to fight this, and help other people not to fall for this con. What can I do? Please help me.
Me and my wife are now unable to move house, and unable to start a family. How dare Jacamo do this to people's lives, it's unethical, we're so upset about this.
Please help.0 -

Yes thats normal if you dont pay on time
I have no need to pay for anything on account, least of all a £15 pair of jeans. Well you took receipt of the Jeans so you pay for them

So why did you go through with the sale if you didnt want an account set up ?
I have since done a credit check and discovered a 'late payment' on my record. Yes makes sense since you paid late correct ?
I am so upset, and my wife is distraught. We were just looking at moving house to start a family, but now we can't.
Is it really that bad ?

This should be on the vents board really.
Sorry to say but it all started when you through what you assumed was junk mail when it was a statement of account and if it was paid on time you would have been able to move.
On the last screen before you register as a new customer it says :
If we enter a credit agreement with you we will also supply details of your agreement with us to the credit reference agencies, as well as ongoing details of your account and how you manage it. If you do not repay on time or in full we will tell the credit reference agencies who will record details of the debt. All this information will be seen by other organisations carrying out later searches.

I had a similar thing with Next buying things for our wedding last summer.
I rang as I noticed on the website they state they will open a credit account and search your credit file also.
I spoke to the (foreign) call centre and said I would like to order some shoes but I do not want an account and do not want you to credit search me I would just like to pay for them. They said fine and I paid with my credit card.
Next day I have an email alert saying there had been a search on my file, you guessed it... Next.
I rang them back and kicked off and had the search removed and a gesture of goodwill for the inconveinence. Its seems catalogue companies are encouraging people to open credit accounts and to get into debt.
