Can you tell me if you use ADSL with a modem connected by USB?

    Ok.

What we need to do is to completely remove the driver and reinstall it.

First, download the driver from here to your desktop.

Then go to Control Panel > System > Device Manager

Right click on Modems (it might be different, I don't have a usb modem to hand), right click on the modem then click the option to uninstall.

This will disconnect you from the internet, so write these steps down or print them off.

Once it's uninstalled, remove the usb cable from your computer.

Restart your computer and keep pressing F8 until you get an option to boot into Safe Mode. Just select Safe Mode, the option without networking or command prompt.

When you're at your desktop, go Start > Control Panel > Folder Options. Click on the tab marked View and then find the option to show Hidden Files and Folders. Click that and then click Apply.

Then go Start > Search and enter without the quotation marks "glausb.sys" and click to find it. If it finds any entries for it, delete them. If it doesn't, restart your computer.

When you're back to your desktop, run the downloaded driver and follow the instructions as prompted. This should get you back online and make sure you're using the right driver.

Good luck and report back :)

    OK

Done all that and everything was installed but still no joy. When I went into safe mode instead of desktop I got a black screen with white writing. It was multidisk rdisk partiton system 32. This was repeated all the way down the screen with various endings.

That's usual, did you leave it until it took you to the desktop? It can take a little while to do it.

Yes. Everything was installed OK but when I go to my computer DVD drive it says "please insert a disk" when there is one in there
