paypal fraud - help

  • Sorry to raise an old thread, but this has just happened to me over the weekend. Two payments, each for £11.50 made to Skype via Paypal. I don't have Skype, and I haven't used Paypal for about five years (nowadays I use my credit card for online transactions and then pay it off immediately).

My bank account also had 66p taken from it to pay AWeber Communications in the USA, who offer emarketing services (polite way of saying spam?!?!) for $1.

All spam emails go to my junk folder, and I delete all messages without even opening them, so I'm presuming the problem lies within Paypal.

Naturally I've informed my bank, who have closed my account and will issue me with a new card by the end of the week. Their Fraud Team are going to look further into the matter, and my account will be reimbursed. Also have to keep an eye on my account (which I do as a matter of course anyway!) over the next few days in case more transactions were made over the weekend.

I've notified Paypal, though from what I've read online, I don't anticipate a response!
  • I've also had problems with 2 recurring payments being set up without me authorising them on Paypal. I complained to Paypal that 1 was unauthorised and they refused to return it. Fortunately I contacted the company directly and they did reverse it.

The other company Zazzle.co.uk is actually US and is refusing to do anything. It has charged me twice for 1 transaction and is refusing to refund. It set up an unauthorised recurring subscription on my account. Only found out by off-chance. Am planning on closing Paypal once/if money is refunded. Not happy at all about this and will obviously never use Zazzle.co.uk again. Just to warn others.
