I logged onto my emails ad it shows a new payment contract set up in my Paypal account and then an amount of about £100 taken out
I didnt set this up - what do i do? ive changed my passowrd and security questions and open a resolution. Ive called my bank but they say there is no payment pending?
Im just changing my email password - anything else to do?
How would they have done this? - my password was numbers and letters, i never click on emails i dont know - in fact on the one from paypal i hovered over the alleged address and then actually logged onto papal by going directly to their site rather than clicking the link.
Do i need to get a new bank card/account?

I would login from a secure location and then click on "Profile" and check under "recurring payments" and "pay list" . If there are any payments set-up that you don't recognise, cancel them immediately and inform Paypal.0

Same thing just happened to me this week. Same as you I am security aware but this was a bit frightening. It's all sorted now but I think we have got to be aware all the time.

I had a paypal nightmare yesterday and I wonder if anyone has any advice.
When I got home last night I had emails to say an unexpected payment had been made into my account. And then a few mins later an unexpected payment had been made from my account.
I set up a resolution claim about the money which went out, and included in the info that I had also received an unexpected payment in.
This morning a hold has been put on my account as the unexpected payment in has been queried by the person who's account must also have been fraudulently accessed.
My problem is, to resolve their dispute on my account, I have to pay the money (£90) back, which I don't have because of the fraudulent payment out. And there doesn't seem to be any way to communicate that to Paypal.
Any thoughts? I am a pretty security conscious user, though, ironically enough, thought the other day that my paypal password could do with changing...0 -
Yep - the Paypal thing happened to me too. I had an e-mail from Paypal to say my transaction for Skype had gone through.
It took another day for the transaction to appear in my bank account. I have done all the usual things with Paypal (password, security details, opened resolution) but also decided to remove all cards associated with my Paypal account. I have received an email to say that there is 'limited access' on the Paypal account (i.e. no payments allowed in or out) & this suits me fine.
Once I realised it was my debit card that had been linked I phoned my bank & asked for a new card & PIN number. Have also changed security & password details for online banking.
Oh, and also changed my e-mail security details because Paypal login is e-mail address!

Received e-mail from Payal today saying:
We've finished reviewing your unauthorised activity claim and you'll
receive a refund for the transaction amount. It may take up to five working
days for the funds to appear in your account.
Any portion of the payment that was funded with your credit card will be
refunded directly to your credit card. You will see this in your
transaction log as two entries. The first is the refund to your PayPal
account and the second is the credit to your credit card. Credits to a
credit card generally take two to three working days to clear, and may not
be immediately reflected in the card's balance.

Had the same thing today. 3 transactions around £750 in total confirmed payments in Euro's and Dollars and 1 request from one of the payee's to put money into my account which I declined. When I called paypal they said that the payments had been suspended as they had thought them suspicious (Chinese IP address). The payments were being made to addresses in Hungary. Paypal say that the money will be refunded to my account next Friday. So if paypal thought the transactions were fraudulent why did they take the money from my account? I can't change my password or cancel my cards on paypal as the account is now limited. I can't cancel my card with the bank as they tell me that paypal may be unable to put the payment back into my account if I cancel the card. I am also security conscious and so asked paypal how this person or persons were able to access my account and they said that it was probably hackers using a keylogger. I find this hard to believe as I use antivirus software that should have picked this "keylogger" up quite easily. I also do not open dodgy attachments from strangers so I'm at a loss as to how they got my details. Maybe paypal have a problem with hackers and keyloggers? I know one thing that after Friday paypal and myself will be parting company.0

If you're in the positive, withdraw your funds before contacting Paypal. As they will sometimes lock accounts for several months (with the funds inside) if they're connected with fraud, even if it's not your fault.0

Friday came and went without a refund into my bank account by paypal. I called paypal this morning to ask why and was told that while under investigation no payment could be made. This I was told may take upto 10 days. I have tried to change the password on my account and have been unable to. Paypal tell me that there is a problem with my account and I should keep trying over the next few days to change my password. Paypal are not presenting themselves as very proffessional or very secure. My advice to anybody is not to use them at all and close your account if you are able to.0

hi
i had 10 payments of 10 euros each debited from my paypal account this afternoon - i immediatly phoned paypal - they have put a hold on my account and all the 10 transactions and they are under investigation - i have changed my security details and cancelled my debit card and bank account details with them - and then cancelled the authority for paypal to withdraw from my bank account. i phoned my bank who said there had been nothing taken from my bank account
needless to say when and if this is all sorted out i will be cancelling my paypal account and will have to say goodbye to ebay and hello to car boot!!!
