Help for a Mobile-illiterate
Help.
I have no idea what I'm looking at when I see MB and GB on mobile phone contracts.
I'm currently looking for a new contract and I want to be able to use the internet on my new phone, but how much MB or GB do I need?
I've heard that if it's 3G, that means it's going to use up an allowance of 250MB per month quickly - is that right?? Is 250MB much? or is 1GB too much???
I have absolutely no idea!!!!! I like to browse.....

That's a pretty broad question, and not easy to answer. The short response is, it depends on what you intend to do.
If you're planning to, say, watch TV on your mobile then you would use up that bandwidth pretty quickly, as you would downloading video clips, games etc.
How exactly do you intend to make use of the internet on your mobile? If you intend to check the news headlines, train times or weather for example then 250MB will be ample; but if you intend to download video clips, music etc then 1GB would be more appropriate.
An average web page can vary in size, but in context the full BBC homepage weighs in at around 350KB (this is a rough calculation based on downloading it locally) - you could fit the page into a 250MB allowance roughly 730 times.0 -

thanks, that's more or less what I needed to know .
I intend to use my mobile to look at the news/weather/sport maybe 3 of 4 times a day..... so perhaps 250MB would be enough.?.0 -
I would say so yes, the few times I use it to check train times I'm reported as using 6KB, so you'd have a hard time getting through 250MB.0
