I have exactly the same trouble, took my ADSL modem out of the loop, and put my shiny new wireless router in using EXACTLY the same cable - can't detect my adsl line like that but as soon as i restore the old modem BINGO.

Thought it may be a router fault and exchanged that at the shop !!!

    Still the same problem?

    Thanks

When I changed my ADSL modem, I also changed the cable on my system to use the one supplied with the new wireless modem/router. The old cable only had 2 connections at its end whereas the new cable supplied had 4 - so I didn't think the cables were interchangeable. Am I wrong?

just a thought.. is there a hardware switch or option to turn on the modem? it may come configured to run just as a router and needs the modem option switching on.

nope - autodetects each thing plugged in - steady light for ethernet (hard wired to desktop) Wlan light on - DSL light just flashes

The old modem on my system used a 2 pin RJ11 connection whilst the new one has a 4 pin (2-5) connection. The old microfilter only had 2 pins (3-4) so I changed it for the 4 pin connector.

Can't say this will apply in every case, but it's a thought
    How many pins you got?

EDIT: Ignore me. On second thoughts this is probably just spare capacity!

  • Sounds like the WAN (ADSL) connection cannot synch.

Check you have PPoA set, with VPI/VCI set to 0/38, encapsulation set to VCMux and authentication set to CHAP.

In your WAN System Status or logs what error/status messages are you getting when you try to connect?
