Think i was right in the fact that they are withdrawing the 5100 series, today the above offer has disappeared (48hrs before it should have) and you can no longer buy a 5100, they have introduced the 5150 as its direct replacement !!!

    No real offers though :o

Out of interest - does anyone know the difference between the 5100 and the 5150? I had a quick look at the spec but couldn't see anything obvious.

5150 seems to be the same as the 5100.
There is one FANTASTIC bargain though - select D-D10515z then upgrade the 80GB hard disk to 2x250GB hard disks and you get a machine with a 2.8GHz Pentium 4 and a 15" flat panel for just £52,826!! Honest I kid you not - this is one of the best deals Dell has ever had, and if they sell just a few hundred of them the CEO will be able to take early retirement!! :D:D

Here's the new game, who can find the most expensive computer
i've just got it to £55363, although i've a slight compatibility problem

might order two and see if they do free delivery

I can get it to £55,374 without any configuration problems, but it is cheating a bit cos I've added a second monitor! If you add in all the optional software and training subscriptions you can get it up to £55,556 including delivery and VAT, but this is a bit of a cheat. You can get it even higher if you buy a matching printer and an LCD TV at the same time!
Wonder if they'd give you a valuable customer discount if you ordered two of these PCs??

  • i have a dell myself , but as is typical i wish i had waited and shopped around a bit longer.far better spec can be had at lower prices at places you would not normally try for computers.
there is currently a very good offer on at toys r us

    https://www.toysrus.co.uk

i think its better value than the dell.

please let me know what you think.

    regards Norm

The Toys R Us machines seem to have very high specs for the money, but personally I don't think the build quality appears very good, and I have no idea what warranty/after-sales service to expect.
I like my Dell machines because they are very robust and appear to use quality components. Maybe not as cheap as the TRU machines, but then I never buy Dells at full price!! :D

I got caught by this - had a system in my cart and then they changed the model - I managed to get the same deal though by entering model D10516 as the model number - it's a 5150 equivalent to the other offer - same price just not a model they are linking too in their suggested models. Luckily I got in on the last day of the memory/19" screen free upgrades.

Also I have been told by someone who used to work at Dell that if you miss an offer by a day or something to ring up and ask for it making it clear you are going elsewhere otherwise - sometimes works, sometimes not.
