Dell 5100 - 19"TFT - 2048mb ram

Dell have, what seems to be, a very competitive system online since yesterday, not a misprice but a powerful, future proof basic setup...........

Dell 5100 3.0ghz P4 (2mb cache)
2048MB Dual Channel DDR2 400MHz ram
160GB (7200rpm) Serial ATA Hard Drive
16x max. DVD +/- RW with dual layer write capability
Internal 9-in-1 Flash Card Reader
19" Value Flat Panel (E193FP)
keyboard + mouse etc etc

£585 inc vat/del

(i know you can get them for under £200 but the 19" at Dell is priced at £350 on its own, also the 1024 to 2048 ram upgrade is worth over £100 of anyones money !!! )

Try D-D10512 as the evalue code. Doesn't come with a graphics card, but you'd probably want to put your own in anyway, and a set of speakers will cost another £15-£20, and no modem but you shouldn't need this if you've got Broadband.
I have a 5100 P4 630 and it's a great machine and I reckon £585 for one with 2GB memory and a 19" TFT screen is a pretty impressive deal - you won't get anything better from the likes of PC World.

    any - d10512

and it is still there with 2048mb

I think that Dell might be phasing out the 5100 series because they've starting selling the 5150 now, could be a chance to hook a bargain ! ;)

    thinking of buying this pc

Can someone explain this for me-probably a silly question but there is no sound card included. This doesnt mean there is no sound does it?? Is it just the option to get better surround sound.

Will I be better getting speakers elsewhere or will the basic speakers at 11.75 suffice??

I will want a good graphics card for son to play games. Should I purchase this from dell or will i get a better deal elsewhere??
    Nice to save.
  • Soundcard is onboard the motherboard, so you wont need one.The onboard one is quite good too.

If you go to pcworld online, they do a pair of creative speakers for about £6.75, if you do a coolect at store and reserve them.If you just walk in, they will cost you £15.00

The motherboard on the 5100 is the PCI express type.Ebuyer or the likes do cards suitable for the job.Depends how much you want to pay, and what games you want to play.

Sound is on-board, so you dont need a sound card.

The basic speakers will suffice for most people.

I would personally hold out for a better bargain though, but I'm used to the mad prices that crop up every so often.
