it is generally only difficult to get a mortgage on ex LA property that is of non standard construction.

the average brick built ex LA semi is very easy to get a mortgage on.

my boyfriend has recently been looking for mortgages and he made some enquiries, the coop, bradford and bingley and another one (cant rmember the name) all said to him they wont lend on ex council or ha

Didn't Middlesborough come top of the last Location Location Location worst place to live thingy? So probably is pretty darn cheap round there.

Of course it is an interesting point about the ex-council hard to mortgage issue, because some of the cheapest places on the open market will also be hard to mortgage, either because the construction is poor or non-standard, or the areas are just too deprived.

I think there are streets of terraces in some big northern cities that change hands for tiny tiny sums, but mortgage companies won't touch 'em.

It'd have been easier if the OP had specified a particular size/type of property and challenged other posters to beat it.

    e.g.

Who can find a link to the cheapest, habitable 2-bed terraced/semi house that isn't ex-LA/HA, isn't SO, isn't a mobile home, not a retirement property, no holiday homes or restricted covenants. Not an auction guide price.

A regular, 2-bed terraced/semi, mortgageable property, ready to move into.

Beat the last person's house price, here's one for openers, just to get the ball rolling:

(borderline as it says needs modernisation, but it has a kitchen and looks all right to me)

I saw that but when you read the details it says to be auctioned.

Miles are always in a straight line ... including crossing estuaries!

The good news is: they could find you a bargain
The bad news is: it'd be in the West Midlands

    :)
