Lets Hear It For Barclays

Although not BR, I had a similar thing when I went into my bank to enquire about ISA's, cashier pressing buttons on her computer then turned around and offered me an Abbey credit card despite the fact that I am on income support etc. Even when I explained that I wouldn't get one because I am on benefits she still insisted that the system said I could have one!
I told her no thanks......We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
Good news on the savings account BLTN, i'm with Barclays too with a Basic account so i may look at that in the future. i have to agree with most regarding them offering you credit, sounds like the bank making things better for them selves for the future.
But again good news really for you.

Good news on the savings part, I might check out the insurance part myself as think Halifax with probably void my policy now Im bankrupt.
One day Id like my credit rating to be good again- but just for the purpose of getting insurance/changing phone companies etc without worrying about being turned down or asked to pay the lot upfront.
I dont think I could ever trust myself again with a credit card, like Shadowdragon, Id have every intention of using it as a buffer, but I think I would end up racking it up in no time.0 -

Also CCCS told me to open a Basic Barclays account because even though I owe to Barclaycard they will not use the `set-off` rule & claim monies out of it. I still need to check this in the terms & conditions.
I also use their Home insurance as always been cheaper ...but glad to know that OH BR is`nt affecting it.:D

thanks for that....I'm surprised to be honest... I thought the connection was a direct one so that Barclaycard could see exactly what was going on in a Barclays account etc and use the "help yourself to funds" rule if they saw fit...For what I've done...I start again...And whatever pain may come ...Today this ends... I'm forgiving what I've done -AF since June 20070 -
I'd personally be pretty wary of every applying for a credit card again though I can see that on occasion it may have some advantages particularly when buying things online (due to fraud protection for purchases over £100).
At some point a little later in the yr I'm going to carry out a 'credit file clear up', but this is simply as a 'top and tailing' exercise rather than some pressing need on my part to rebuild my credit rating. That said BLTN if you trust yourself to use it responsibly - i.e. pay off in full every month - I can't see you doing yourself much harm given the low credit limit, just so long as you don't allow it to restart the been in debt spiral by becoming 'comfortable' with been in debt.0 -
It is good that BLTN got her savings account & Contents quote & thats what she asked for along with great customer service. I think however that offerring other debt products when she clearly is looking to save money is a sign of the times.
TBH I think that the Banks (collectively) should take some responsiblity for the hard sell approach that they have been guilty of over the last decade.
Whatever load of bull they put out in the media to cover up that fact...its sell, sell, sell at any cost...targets are everything to them...profit for the `shareholders` & not to mention the carrot of `high bonuses` to top performers.
They are not interested in the cost that the poor consumer has to pick up when rates go up /circumstances change etc...but we know that don`t we!
The day of reckoning is here & the Banks are struggling to get more consumers to take credit they are turning their emphasis onto getting the next generation of `hard sell fodder` ready by trying to encourage them to take credit thinly disguised as...`oh well you will need one of these cards...it will improve your credit rating you know!!! isn`t that good...oh you sooo neeed one!!! - NOT I SAY.

haha Angel...so your the hard sell type then..lol..only jokin.
it is worrying that they tried to get her a CC. when i got to barclays and withdraw at the counter i often get asked would i like to upgrade etc as i only have the basic, not had the full hard sell yet but some dont take no for an answer. All in all i've had a pretty good service over the past year.
How are you today?BSC MEMBER NO. 125:D

Hi Dave...I`m good..been ebaying all day!! bit boring but getting there.
I was not really having a pop at Barclays there ..I agree with BLTN their customer care & friendliness is better than most... I`m just concerned that the Banks concept of `responsible lending`is based on profit & feel that all financial institutions are `quick to sell` but `quick to wash their hands of the debt` when it goes bad.
I am feeling a little down as just had run-in with NRock re penalties & potential charges etc.
Hey Ho....Angel forces a smile!!!:rolleyes:0 -

For sometime now i've had the same thing at the Barclays counter Dave.
After a few hours of deep thought i haven't really got anywhere, except to think that maybe they are preying on the vulnerable.
I really can't see a 'need' for a CC at the moment, although it would be great to re build my shattered credit rating.
At present, i'm fortunate to have dam good parents to help me out on any unforeseens that crop up.
My first reaction was elation, but now i'm all messed up.
I can also totally understand any non bR coming here and reading this and thinking !!!!!!. How easy has this been for me..very early discharge, a savings account and now a flaming CC less than 10 months after righting off a large amount of money.
I'm confident that i could handle a CC again -albeit one with a very low limit- but i'm actually quite comfortable with my very basic lifestyle at the moment.
I've gone without so much in the last year and i think i'd like to continue that way.
I need to stop worrying and fussing about things that haven't happened. I keep thinking that the CC would be so useful IF the washing machine broke down, IF there was an emergency with family back home and i needed to do a dash there..
Thanks for everyones input. Its been very useful.
BLTN ( maybe a name change to baffled and confused)The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter0
