Lets Hear It For Barclays

I'm in deep shock:eek:

Just went into Barclays for a chat about opening a savings account. I got it, no problems. They said its their policy to allow them to BRs that have their basic account. Saw it all there on the computer and will get my card and pin in the next day or two.

If that wasn't good enough, she asked if i had contents insurance and would i like a quote. I said that they would probably penalise me for being BR, but no! they don't. She gave me a better quote than pre BR:D

Just out of interest.. were barclaycard one of your creditors?

I know barclays are ok giving a basic account if they're one of your creditors but are barclaycard the same?

I would like to know that too. When I go BC one of my creditors will be Barclays (OD, Loan and CC) Wonder if they would be willing to give me a basic account!!!
"Well, that sounds like a pretty good deal. But I think I got a better one. How about I give you the finger, and you give me my phone call"

  • No, they were one (one of the only:rolleyes: ) people i didn't owe money too.
    .
Got to be worth people applying for their basic account, even if you get turned down. nothing ventured (and no, i'm not now working for them on a commission basis:p )

They said it helped that i'd had the account for a few months (9 to be exact) and that it had been 'well used' with lots of activity.:o

She did say the Credit card was guarenteed, though i don't know if thats a guarentee for existing barclasy customers only.

I knew Barclays (bank) were fine with it, just wondered if Barclaycard were the same? (I know they seem like the same company but whenever I used to phone them they always stressed that they were nothing to do with the bank!)

I do know that they are keen to help people improve their credit...in some ways so that they flog you more credit in later years:rolleyes:

Also CCCS told me to open a Basic Barclays account because even though I owe to Barclaycard they will not use the `set-off` rule & claim monies out of it. I still need to check this in the terms & conditions.

I also use their Home insurance as always been cheaper ...but glad to know that OH BR is`nt affecting it.:D

I always thought they were one of the same.

I always thought so too but they always told me they were separate.
(obviously both "owned" by the the same company though)

Not sure why i'm even asking though as only 3 months into my BR so a bit soon to be exploring what credit's available :D:D
