I'd also make a HUGE thing about the fact that you phoned the store and she went and left you holding on for over 16 mins and didn't return to the phone - that is also a serious issue. And ask for them to refund you the cost of the phone call.

She shouldn't be in that position - or any customer facing role if she treats people like that.

Don't let her get away with it - next time it may be a child that is treated like that.

    Good luck,

One small point, I would remove the ! from the end of your first paragraph. Otherwise the letter was fine, maybe a bit long, but you were quoting what had happened so overall I liked it.

Aww thanks for doing that - I bet they thought you were me !!
The irony is ..... that my parents (dad) rang up this afternoon and asked them if they had a loving family dolls house in stock and they went to check, then came back and said yes, he then asked if they could put it by and they said - YES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Can you believe it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I get the impression, its one rule for one and another for everyone else.

My letters were posted this morning, to the operations manager, and managing director. whether or not he`ll get it I don`t know, but it was worth a shot !

WIG !!! `!` removed ! After reading through it this morning, spotted it and abolished it ! LoL

Glad you got the doll :T

I've always hated Toy R Us, when they opened in Glos the toy dept in the shop I worked in closed down  I thought "if you can't beat 'em join 'em" so I went for a job as a supervisor, got it then they said they'd pay me 60p per hour less than they advertised. I told them to stick it :D

Why does anyone shop in Toysrus? The shop is a nightmare to get out of if you are not buying anything, everyone is rude who works there (must be a job criteria - must be miserable at all times), and above all it is flippen expensive. You can get things alot cheaper elsewhere. Stay clear I say.

Yes I used to shop in the Glos branch 'til I saw the light. Not been in ANY Toysrus for at least 10 years.

Dumb question but why didn't you just buy it or put it on a card or something and then get the money from your parents the next day?

This is a problem brought about by people who phone up and reserve items and then never come in to claim them .. or they reserve it for 24 hours and come in a few days later and kick up stink because it has since been sold - usually they lie through their teeth and claim they only put it aside the day before. SHops are there to sell goods if they do offer to put something aside then it is done as a favour. I can understand the policy leading up to Christmas ... can you just imaging it ... they get in 300 furbies and receive 300 calls to put one aside ... not only is the management of this ridiculous but also what about the poor customer who walks in through the door sees a pile of 300 furbies and tries to buy one only to be told they are all sold.

The next day that person will log onto MSE and put up a posting saying 'ToysRUs don't care about children !!!!!'.

Many shops used to be more than willing to phone around and get stuff transferred from one store to another ... not any more, simply because Joe public abused the system.

anyone else tried to join their parent and baby club. i tried before mine was born, and got vouchers [worth 50 pounds off my spend] only after i'd spent 300 pounds the previous week.

so when my friend was pregnant signed her up at 12 weeks. 6 months later she's still received nothing.......despite several calls. went to the shop to buy some things, but i insited on asking for her discount, that has still not arrived. no. so we left the shop emtpy handed.

did ask the manager if if they expected people to sign up to the baby club before conception, and that this might make working out the due date a little harder...........no comment.

Had a call from the area manager for the South West this afternoon - very efficient seen as I only posted the letter on Saturday !!

He was very apologetic and said that it should not have hapenned and blamed it on the woman having an `off day!`!!!!!

There policy is to hold things for no more that 24 hours, and that my request was not un-reasonable and should have been done for me.

He explained that some people ask to put things by for a week, or even until xmas eve and its only then that they are unwilling to do it.

He said he will be in touch with the woman today and find out what her reasons were for talking to me like she did (wish I could be a fly on the wall for that !! ) and will get in touch with me shortly.

The most surprising thing that he said was that in all the years he has worked for toysrus, he has never encountered a complaint like mine before. not sure whether to believe him or not !! LoL

Anyway, I got an apology from him and he said if there is anything he can do for me in the future, just to call !! So a nice bloke - just a shame about the stupid woman who started all this !!!!!

    Well done on your letter.

Ivan, I disagree. Customer SERVICE should be that the customer is SERVED with respect. I understand that a company may decline to hold an item, but then it should be standard policy to do so, not on the whim of a bad tempered staff member. And it's not an unreasonable request. Although if it was my shop I'd be tempted to ask for a deposit on held items.

Further, it is dreadful that the woman spoke to a customer like that and worse that she clearly put the phone down and wandered off without any intention of going back to it.

I know that staff members in all sorts of industries get hassle and abuse from the occasional idiot customer. But that is no reason to be rude to other customers.

As an aside, I went to that store once and thought it was an awful place. There were so many character toys and that's fine but if you want an ordinary one without paying a premium for having bob the builder or pooh bear on it, it's not so easy to find anything.
