unlocked phone-?warranty void
Comments

it is not void - the network operators will give the code to unlock it themselves if you ask - some even for free if youve spent a certain amount of credit.m277 wrote:It doesn't matter which network it is, once you've unlocked your phone the warranty will be void since the warranty is provided by the network and you're not supposed to use the phone on another network.
the warrenty of the phone is with nokia - not the network operator (although this will be changed soon to stop certain operators trying to deny responsibilty by claiming they only provide the network)0 -

Its just that one of my mate works for 3 and he's said that any unlocking of their phones will void the warranty. So it must be a different policy for each network.0 -
i think 3 have a slightly different view as they have lost a fortune subsidising there phones so much then losing out when unlocked, which is why they threatened court action to the original unlockers of the nec models on 3 (as it infringed the copyright) but newer unlockers use a different methoed. i was talking about nokias but i would think the same applies to all models, assuming the s/w or h/w hasnt been modded in any way to unlock. 3 themselves will give you the unlock code for about £150 for 6630 but it would still be warrentied by nokia befroe or after unlocking0

If it doubt take it to a Nokia Service Centre....I've taken a vast amount of phones (nokia of course) to their service centers over the years for repair, they don't care who the phone is with, only if it is still in the warrenty period.
Basically when you take a phone to a service centre they will scan the bar code on the phone (usually where the imie number is) and check it is in warrently. If in warrenty, depending on the alleged fault, they will dismantle (open) the phone infront of you to identify if there is any water damage. If there is any trace of water damage (clever this, shows as thick line o batterys, discolouring on circit board) they will tell you the warrenty is void and give you a price for repair. If there is no water damage they will fix the problem
I once took a 3330 to them for repair, this was the days of having to flash the phones software to remove the lock (you peeps don't realise how easy it is these days). The flash had failed and the phone didn't even turn on....the Nokia Service Centre staff didn't give a damn, took it from me and said to call back a few hours later....phone was received with updated firmware and service provider locks gone

This is exactly the point I was trying to make, and something well worth looking into if you have a faulty phone still in warranty.
I, like many others I suspect, have taken phones back to the retailer where they have developed a fault within warranty. Usually they just say they will have to send it away for x number of days, and what's more, with PAYG phones they don't tend to give you a free loan phone. Clearly, by going direct to a manufacturer-approved service centre you get a much better and faster service by cutting out the middle-man - something I'll definitely be doing in the future :idea:0 -
no one knows wether it isunlocked why bother?are you thinking what iam thinking :T0
