Call Diverting

I'm with BT and have a divert set up for when I am out of the office, which is a great help, but doesn't sound very professional when the caller hears 'your call is being diverted'.
Does anybody know of a Company that offers a divert system without my clients knowing the call is being diverted. Most of the ones I have spoken to all rent their lines from BT and so you get the same message. The other option I am looking at is getting an 08 number, but not one with high call charges, but will still give me the option of diverting without that horrible message. I do have a call centre or mobile that I can divert to.
Thanks

Welcome to the MSE forums YMM1966.

I use BT's Call Diver Calling Feature (£1.75/month) to divert calls from my (residential) home number to my mobile but, because I use a CPS calls provider, the diverted part of the call goes out via the CPS calls provider's network, not on BT. Callers do not hear a message - just a ring tone.

A test showed the divert is transparent to callers, my mobile rings immediately and people frequently don't realise I'm not answering at home.

I wonder whether your business line uses a different divert feature which means callers hear that merssage.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

    There's mention here:

    http://www.techtalkz.com/telecom/184227-ringtone-during-bt-call-divert.html

of a "Call Diversion No Announcement" service from BT, though I have to say I can't find much in the way of further references. Have you tried asking BT?

Thanks for your reply. My office is from home and I have the residential divert. I have spoken to BT about being able to take off the message, but they say it can't be done. I never heard of a CPS calls provider i'm afraid.

Just wanted to say thanks again for the information. Having spent 40 minutes on the phone to BT, I mentioned the document which lists 'call diversion, no announcement. They are now putting a request through to have the message removed within the next two days.
  • You could also look at something like http://www.realitytelecom.co.uk/

This enables you to have a virtual company number which you can transparently "point" at any landline or mobile. You can even have it try one then the other.

I think that confirms that it is the carrier of the forwarded part of the call which determines whether callers hear an announcement.

It sounds like you (expensively) use BT for the forwarded part of the call. I use Primus Penny Mobile 2 CPS (Carrier PreSelect) - so my forwarded calls cost me a flat rate of 20p for up to 20 minutes.

Might be worth switching your calls - not line rental to Primus and opting for the free penny mobile option.

Primus Saver 2 gives you inclusive evening and weekend calls for no monthly fee and if you ask for penny mobile - this free option allows you to call mobiles for 20p for up to 20 mins - a lot cheaper than what BT charge.

Daytime rate doesn't start until 08:00 unlike 06:00 for BT.

CPS = Carrier Pre-Select, this is where your line rental remains with BT, but you calls are automatically routed via your chosen low cost calls carrier. You can always place some calls back over BT if you show wished by prefixing the call with 1280, you can even route some calls via other providers such as Call 1899 and Call 18185 by prefixing the calls with their short access code.

Certainly worth looking into when you can divert calls to your mobile, for what it costs on BT to divert for a couple of minutes, you could divert for 20 with Primus.

Do you have a link that gives further details of this please? I've taken a look at their website and can't find any references to it.

    Thanks

They don't detail it on their website, it's a case of calling up and asking for it by name.

OK thanks - though it does seem a strange way to operate!
