Im looking into going to the Motorshow this year, I always leave it too late to plan the journey.
Im not very experienced with trains Im in Durham so its quite a trek down to london.
have been pricing the train tickets
I can get from Durham to Kings Cross in 3hours. Return on the same day £35-£42
Can anyone advise how long is suitable to be at the motorshow?
Also id need advise on how to get to the motorshow from kingscross, is it hard/far?
website only seems to say
and only really helpful if you know london, ive never been
hope someone can advise, id love to go, should have done it when was at birmingham

ExCeL London is very easy to get to by public transport with 2 dedicated DLR stations for the show (Custom House and Prince Regent). Canary Wharf and the City are just minutes away on the Docklands Light Railway and Jubilee Line, and we are only a 30-minute trip from the West End.

I'm also very interested in travelling to the British Motorshow but instead from Newcastle so any help posted on this thread would be great.
Cheers for asking something I've been meaning to ask in a while but kept putting it off.

I think if you come from newcastle. its gonna b the exact same route innit.train goes thru durham to darlo n down to the big smoke.
Did u get rougly same train prices as me. I picked the cheapest times and hopefully enough time to be there, i no idea how much is enough. i know it would be a long day. probs fall asleep and end up in edinburgh on way back

I'm thinking about staying in London for a few nights and visiting the motorshow for a day or so and then having a look round London. I've just come back from London and wouldn't mind going again.
The prices I'm getting (bearing in mind I'm not getting a same day return) are about £37-£57 on the times I was wanting to travel, so yeah it's roughly the same.
Are you going down there on your own or going with someone? Was also wondering if it was worth going more than one day (I've never been before so not sure).

I think it's roughly 8 miles from Kings Cross - but it would be pretty easy to get the tube from Kings Cross to somewhere near the motor show.0 -
I booked this place
http://www.marlinapartments.com/
Marlin Stratford, it's brand new, 2 bed apartent for £135
Great if you can share with people, as it sleeps six.0 -
If you look on the tansport for london website they provide you with a travel planner.
Theres a decent tube map here
From kings cross I would take the northern line south bound to Bank then take the dlr (docklands light railway).

Stay in the ExCel area at least twice a year for business at ExCel.
All hotels close by will charge "event rates" during the show and most of the workers for the show will be staying in them.
If you can get into the IBIS Excel I recommend you do for £70 no more.
Travelling to the venue from central london and the DLR station is called Custom House for Excel. It is easier than you imagine. Extra DLR trains will be running during the event and the WEB sites to visit are
www.tfl.co.uk for tube and DLR info
London Excel own WEB site for local info.
www.tripadvisor.co.uk for London Excel Venue info and reviews on local hotels.
You could stay at www.royaladelphi.co.uk which is really central in london.
www.walkit.co.uk on the shortest routes between two points in central london.
If you collect airmiles use these to keep the cost of your hotel down.
Going to the show myself for the second time. Went 2 years ago and throughly enjoyed it. You should be through in 6 hours and if you want to try out some of the cars on a small race track you will need to take your driving licence with you.0 -
thanks for the help. so if i get to kings cross. how long it take to get to motorshow on the DLR.
u get on this at kings cross? or does it require multiple changes?
and are certain days not as busy at the motorshow, id probs go on a weekday.0
