I want to buy a disc that allows me to make personalised chocolate wrappers

But all I seem to be finding on the internet is people actually selling the chocolates and wrappers already made.
Can anyone guide me in the right direction please. If I could download for free (if that's allowed) then that would be even better. I have spent hours looking and all I seem to find are loads of pages and then on the 3rd or 4th page - Buy now for $79.99!!
Thanks for any help,
Claire.

Can you not scan a wrapper in to your PC and edit it to suit your needs?
Print it out and wrap around the chocolate?
  • I'm not very clever with computers so I would need a step by step programme.
People sell the wrapped chocolates on eBay saying they can put any picture and any wording on the wrappers - that's exactly what I want to do.
I have kids and also look after kids so it would be great to be able to make them myself.

There won't be a step by step progam for this. You need something like Microsoft Publisher which is a desk top publishing type program. You can design the label to whatever size you require and put on whatever text you like.

You could do it in Word but you'll be more restricted in your layout and designs.

Copy and paste your finished design to fill an A4 page and then cut it up to the correct sizes once printed.

    Good luck with your venture!

  • I will give a step by step but first have to have a common program to use ms word or works will do it.
  • Yes, you will need some sort of layout and/or vector graphics program. Pretty much all of them are not free... however most have free 30-day trials you can download.

For desktop publishing, would suggest you consider the best on the market... Adobe InDesign, although Microsoft Publisher may be easier to use.

If the wrapper is going to contain some kind of logo or graphic, you need Adobe Illustrator or Macromedia FreeHand. Both these programs can be used for (page) or layout for anything really, particularly small projects - so you wouldnt need a separate DTP app.

None of these are programs you will learn overnight!

I agree with all the comments posted. I use Microsoft Picture It, which came with Works. I went out and bought a load of milky bars, removed the wrappers and then made my own for a kids party - they loved it.

All you need to do in unwrap the wrapper so it is flat and measure it. Then using your software package - word or picture it or any other that you have. Import your photos and play around to your hearts content. Then just print up on cheapy paper (I bought Tescos own cheap glossy - as it wasnt very thick and I could easily put it back on the chocolate).

Just wrap them back up and hey presto. Easy peasy lemon squeezy! :j
  • Don’t forget the original post. A simple solution to a simple problem that saves money.
All that is required is a picture and or text, in a box to the correct size, that can be cut out. Any program that can import a picture re-size it and print it will do.

I have done this with a cheap program I bought a few years ago (Called: American Greetings Crafts) so I don't know if the program is still available or how much it is (I don't believe I paid more than £19.99 for it at the time  but I do know it wasn't expensive because I bought it initially to print off placemats, party hats, table place names and badges for birthday parties for my boys) .

Very basically, I took a large bar of Aero, took the paper wrapper off and measured the overall size of the wrapper. Then, I used the rectangle tool to draw a rectangle approximately the size I needed on the screen in a light grey (had my paper setting as A4). Then added a background colour, some clipart (which came as part of the program) imported a scanned picture, added some text ... then ... X'd my fingers, printed it out black and white in draft mode so I could then see where I needed to make any changes in size etc.

That program I bought in somewhere such as either Staples or PC World. The program itself was very straightforward and even my then 6yo was able to do some straightforward designs.

$80 is a LOT! Especially for the sort of project you wish to do.

Found one of my bookmarks which may help ;)

This link will take you to a website with some very basic, straightforward instructions on how to make a "Candy Bar Wrapper" .... (US Site) http://www.craftypc.com/candywrapper.html

There are other "free instructions" for other PC Crafts that may or may not interest you. http://www.craftypc.com/projects.html

I am not affiliated with the company in any way at all.
