Thanks rainmac - I am quite pleased with them I have to admit. The red/yellow one also has a streak of pink in it. Its not all that clear on the photo.
I'm desperate to have a go at an ice cream style candle, think that would look great (if I do it right that is!)

Hey sammy some good bargains there. I really wish I had a poundland near me. I only get in one when I go visit my mum and dad.

Today is my only free day of the week so hoping to get a couple of crafty jobs done. I will share what I make of course!!

Hey everyone - I've done most of my Christmas shopping but I'd like to add a small home made thing to everyone's gifts too. So my list includes:

    2 parents
    1 grandparent
    1 brother
    1 OH
    1x His family
    4 friends

My Dad will be getting a jar of 365 interesting facts, one per day.
My mother - a jar of interesting quotations, one per day.
My brother - some sort of spiced coffee mix, I imagine.
My OH - home made Hob Nobs
Ditto for the friend who doesn't drink
OH's family - either home made biscuits or home made cheese straws/crackers and tapenade
3x friends - some sort of flavoured vodka

I'm stuck on the grandparent. She's diabetic, well over 90 and I'm already giving her avocaat as part of her gift. I was considering one of those flower pot nativity scenes, but she's not terribly religious and knows quite well that I'm not.

Just nipped into town and couldn't resist a look in the charity shops.........came home with two candles for 50p and a length of grey velvet type material............think it will be ideal for french memo board for grandson. Material was £1.50.........didn't think that was too bad for the amount I got.
Decided to do some 'gifts in a jar' that are little verses and a few bits to go with them. Our old paste spread jars will be perfect if I paint the lids.
And they'll work our as little 'freebie'' gifts to add to hampers.

I'm creative -you can't expect me to be neat too !

Planning to make a couple of the flannel reindeers, thought they'd be lovely in the bathroom over Christmas :)

Just picked up a pack of 3 brown flannels 99p, googly eyes 70p and mixed pom poms (several red ones in there of assorted sizes) also 70p, all from Wilkinsons.

Also got in there a couple of small whisks for hot chocolate mugs, pack of 2 for 49p, bought 2 packs and for some reason it then took 50p off! So paid 48p for 4 mini whisks!

Any idea where i can get some brown pipe cleaners? Have already found some little bells on Ebay.

    HTH someone

Sugarspun, how about a no sew blanket for your grandmother? I'm going to make one for my nan. She's 84 and doesn't really want anything but I thought a blanket may be useful to help keep her warm. Someone posted links on making them on this thread. Here's one... http://heartsandtrees.blogspot.com/2007/12/no-sew-fleece-blankets.html

Melon78, I got brown pipecleaners in Hobbycraft - £1.49 for 25. Your whisks were a real bargain :D

Mary, you always find the best charity shop bargains, well done!

Her is my attempt to show you how to make a xmas rheindeer that i made from bluepeter in 1991 when pregnant wiht my gobby teenager boy  yes having a bad day today:mad:

i have no pictures to show you they are in the loft and sadly my rheindeer went to the tip this year after 14? xmas appearances it got wet and damaged and i cried :o

you have to use imagination but it was a lovely display to have gold coins in or small parcels , i made two one large one smaller as i ended up with two boy,s

    rheindeer.jpg

    you need

    newspaper
    kitchen roll
    paste
    glue
    brown paint
    red felt nose
    brown pipecleaner antlers
    eyes
    red felt for seat

    red/gold ribbon for sledges
    tea bag box/s for sledge/s
smartie tubes for sledges /may be hard now they have changed but round tubes?x 4
    gold spray paint

roll up a long newspaper and make long tube see above diagram

then fold left side for the head /nose end

fold right side a little smaller for stubby tail

take another two rolls of newspaer and make the v shapes /cut to size of realistic leg length

tape onto body of first newspaper one at head/neck joint and one at back/tail joint, now check it sort of stand up :rotfl: and legs are level :rotfl:

tape antlers made from pipecleaners onto top of head , covering base with papermache

use kitchen roll and paste to papermache to cover all the paper

paint with brown paint when dry

when dry stick red felt nose onto end of nose facing you ...imagine long face nose at bottem

    stick on eyes

    nose.jpg
    sledge/s

cut teabag box and tape up so it is a open top carraige ? box with no top!

cut out of card the shape of a sliegh and stick to side of box

cut up smarty tubes or small tubes to make stumps and attache to each bottem corner of box

stick one smarty tube on two of the stumps on each side , hence making your shiegh runners?gliders?:o

    spray all this gold

attach gold/red ribbon all around the sleigh and stand next to rheindeer, position ribbon to attach from sleigh to the side of rheindeer body and selotape in place ( so now your rheindeer should look like it is pulling the sleigh)

cut red felt seat that goes over the rheindeers back and falls down over selotaped ribbon and maybe half way down it's leg length

    sledge.jpg

:rotfl: if you got this far without a drink then good luck:rotfl:

    it really is lovely:o :p

That would be super cool, but I already got her a Laura Ashley throw for 3.50 from the Grabbit board! And a scarf, theatre tokens and some avocaat.

Her birthday's Christmas Eve, it makes it even harder. For her birthday I'm going to give her Royal Jelly smellies in a pretty bowl.
