MyMovieStream DVD Rental Online - POLL

Hi all,
Following several complaints on MSE and on Google about MyMovieStream, I thought I would set up a poll so that newbies considering signing up with MMS can see some feedback.
Feel free to then follow up on this thread any comments you have.
Personally, my experience has been:
- They promised a free DVD when I registered, 2 and a half months on they have not sent it and they always say there are 'delays' and send me a template answer about the free gift.
- Have bad selection of DVD's and if they have new movies, they buy very few, so the new movies sit on your list for ages and you always get palmed off with really old stuff
- Make the cancelation process quite hard - you have to do it online and only when all DVD's have been received
- Upon cancelation they often 'lose' DVD's that you have sent back and threaten to charge £30
- They then continue to debit your card, as it's not a Direct Debit, they can charge your card for as long as they like - your bank cannot cancel this
- They will not issue refunds of membership fees debited from your card even if you previously canceled
This is my opinion only - also they have now re-named themselves OutNow in case you see e-mails for this company.

Good:beer:
My experience is slightly different, I came on today to tip you all off about an Email they sent me. But thought I would have my 2p's worth on this outfit! To be honest, I haven't had any "problems" with these guys - but heres my story!
I joined them early last year after they sent me an email offering a free trial and free DVD to keep.
Within 2 days of joining a member of what I assume to be their sales team called me and "welcomed" me to the service, basically explaining how it works and making a big point of telling me when I would be charged and what to do if I didnt enjoy the trial.
I received 2 new releases and everything else was from a boxset of CSI that I missed when it was on channel 5. The postage was paid for both ways.
I cancelled the trial before the end date and they did not deduct any funds from my card. The cancellation was a piece of cake a very simple process I just followed the prompts. They didn't touch my account and no money has been taken for the trial.
The Free DVD to keep arrived, late, but it was free :rotfl: so not a major issue, trust me if I had paid for it I would have kicked off bigtime! In fact some poor service rep would have got an earful!
Anyhow - I received a email from them inviting me to rejoin - which I have done - I will share my experiences here at the end of the trial.0 -

AwfulReading through these Moviestream reviews, I often come across one like that from themightyjack which seems too good to be true, notably in the way that it seems to deliberately explicitly refute all the problems other posters have had (taking us through each step of the free trial process and claiming - slightly too deliberately - they did not have a problem).
I hate to be suspicious, and apologies to themightyjack if you are a genuine moneysaver (and if you are, I'm sure you'll forgive me for being a bit sceptical at times) but I do wonder if they are MyMovieStream plants.
I'm sorry to say that it's the unethical nature of this company that makes me think they would be willing to deceive people like this.0 -
AwfulPossibly... as a newbie, so far out of 4 posts themightyjack has posted 2 amout MMS... who knows! If he/she works for MMS, all they'd have to do is Google themselves to find out that lots and lots of people are unhappy with MMS. I submitted my Watchdog enquiry last week, hopefully more folks will do so as well, so that MMS get looked into for this.MFW #185

I work for a Mobile Phone company based in Ealing, London!! Am I too positive?! I hope that whatever action you take, the outcome is right, however, I accept your apologies for the accusation!

themightyjack you need to lighten up hun - you won't get far on MSE if you are so OTT in your reactionsMarty06 means no harm, just pointing out you seem to be a bit too ththusiastic of MMS... but of course it's great to hear your thoughts.
You yourself may have had a wonderful experience and 'fleeced' them as you say, but sadly hundreds of others have not.
MSE have now also backed this up based on the complaints they have read, by stopping their direct link to MMS.MFW #185

GoodFair enough! :A
I like the service they offer! But some people like pepperoni on pizza and some don't if you get my drift!
I recommended them to family and mates so it will be interesting to hear what they say. I suppose if you are upset with a company the first thing you do is tell as many people as possible, yet when someone does something amazing we keep it to ourselves!
Perhaps a new segment is needed on this site for punters to praise companies that deserve it!
Calling them and speaking to someone seems to do the trick - its amazing what you can acheive by being pleasant and explaining yourself in a non aggressive way!
Got 3 discs in post today, so if its a wet weekend will be watching Aviator, Atonement and No Country for Old Men!:T0 -
AwfulOK, themightyjack, I accept you're not connected with them and am glad you've had a good experience.
I agree we also need to praise good service, and actually posted about this earlier this week elsewhere.
I'm not sure about your pepperoni analogy though. We're not just talking about preferences for one service or another, but about a basic way of treating people. Some like pepperoni on their pizza, other like mushrooms - but no one likes arsenic, and that is what MMS seems to have served up to some people!
I also disagree that calling them and being polite always works; I was very calm and polite when I called, but it was the customer service guy who refused to explain things to me, was rude and hung up on me!
This type of thing seems to have been the experience of too many people to make it just coincidence or the case of getting customer service reps on a bad day, but points towards something bad about a company, hopefully just some kind of poor training, but at worst systemic unethical and dubious business practices from the top down.0 -

Yup - the service from MMS overall isn't even comparable to say LoveFilm, who are efficient, top of the league and have soooo many more *new* releases to choose from. And, who let you cancel without gimmicks. They keep trying to get me back, in the autumn I may well go back to Lovefilm.
Also, themightyjack, I think here on MSE we do very much praise good companies and quality service :T completely so. Hence for example ICICI and IceSave savings account getting a rush of customers as soon as people read about their good service. Once you have been a member here for longer, you will see how much this is the case.
So consumer power works very well for good companies, and the other side of this is that it isn't great for those companies who mistreat customers and offer bad service.MFW #185
