hi
What a mess?? Is there any way get that default off my credit file?? I have so much loan payments much bigger than that egg card payment. I went into that mess because I opened an account with Halifax and transferred my dd to them, I did not transfer my wage so I was underestimating I guess!! But to make matter worse Halifax was charging me £35 for every payment missing, I did not understand why I was running out of money until I saw all the charges over £200 in one month, so I decided to close the account and again transfer all dd to my old bank. Problem is egg card, I have terminated long before but was paying by dd, the problem is when I contacted to them to say I was going to pay in two weeks as I have to sort of the mess( I thought they will be ok since I never missed payment except this one) but how wrong I was!!! It looks like I have missed since April and they have sent me a letter to my OLD ADDRESS and they have but default notice in my credit file and threaten to take me to collection agency, I try to negotiate taking off that from my file but they refused even if I pay in full. I am getting annoyed because it is only £20 !!! Any way of taking it off?? Anyway she went on of how I need to pay anything today, I refused as I do not have anything, and went on and on that she will take me to debt collection agency, I said what the worse can happen you already put default in my account but she insist I pay anything today otherwise bla bla I said NO till 2 weeks when I get paid then she said 2 weeks then or else.
I am not planning to take credit but default for six years not good! Advice

I'm afraid your very likely stuck with the default but write to them anyway and put your case clearly explaining how this happened and they may remove it.
The only other thing you can do is post a notice of correction on credit files explaining how you got the default.0 -
Thanks for your reply the women I spoke to said if I cleared my debt it will look good as it will say settled. The good thing is I will have no interests or charges just clear the amount.0

Don't be fooled it may be marked settled but it's still a default and will remain for 6 years unless you get it removed.0 -

hur575, key here are two things:
1. as soon as you could after becoming aware of the problem you paid the amount.
2. you weren't aware sooner because they wrote to your old address.
Provided you told them about your new address this is maladministration on their part and you shoulld be able to get any default and most late payment remarks on your credit record removed, since they reflect the lender's mistake (wrong address) as well as yours.
The worst that would be appropriate here is a few late payment entries and a settled at the end. That's not going to stop you from getting prime credit.
But I think that the late payment entries aren't appropriate here due to the use of the old address. Just the first one due to your mistake seems suitable, then the rest not reported as late because those were due to their mistake.
So, once you've cleared the debt, I suggest that you suggest this handling to them as an accurate record of who was responsible at each stage and a fair and equitable and a more cost-effective route for all involved than you using the external complaints processes available to you to deal with maladministration and inaccurate credit record reporting.0 -
jamesd, thank you that is very interesting even though I sent them the letter, I checked my credit file today and it seems ok, they just marked me as missing 1 payment not 3months. The report was updated on the 9th and my letter should have reached them yesterday so finger crossed it is not as bad as the rude lady made it out. The good news I will have no interest to pay as they terminated the account, I did not use it anyway in years just clearing the debt only.0

Sounds as though they have done just what I thought was fair.
As for one missed payment, that's few enough that it won't automatically disqualify you from getting Capital One's credit card for those with "excellent credit". So not great but probably not a big issue unless you're looking marginal to a lender for some other reason. But some are more sensitive than others so this isn't perfect prediction, just halfway decent generalisation.
Getting it finally paid off is probably going to improve your situation more than that missed payment hurts.0 -
Ok I am confused, I called egg to pay my monthly payment I was told that there is default under my name!!!! Can they register default after one missed payment? In my credit file only May is marked as missing 1 payment, and I paid this month now. Since they terminated my account and not getting interest off me, would they just start marking each month as default from now on?? Until they get their money?? Is it better to pay off that amount in full even though it is 1k !! but then can they mark it as default after?? I am so confused someone help me please.0
