I read today that a world shortage of lemons could see them disappear from shop shelves by August  Late frosts have wrecked harvests in Argentina and South Africa and apparently, oil rich Russian buyers are buying up the surviving lemons! One grower in the UK predicts lemons will almost completely have run out by the end of July.
I've been trying to grow a lemon plant......no success yet though!

Show me a lemon plant that will grow in the uk that I don't have to take a mortgage out to buy and I might be interestedFreedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0

I see what you mean! I bought a small lemon tree from Plants4Presents last year through a magazine offer for under a fiver. I've just been to look at their web site, and prices start at about £25 - though admittedly for a larger plant. My baby lemon tree is doing very well in the greenhouse - will be fruiting this year0

I've been growing my own lemons for a couple of years. And limes, and satsumas. The trees are outside for the summer, but they go in the greenhouse for the winter.0

I got a grow your own lemon tree in the Christmas sales and that's the one that hasn't grown at all! I'll buy some lemons from Tesco at the weekend, try planting the pips....and see what happens (or not!)0

I asked for a lemon tree for my birthday last year. So far I've had only one lemon, but I have my fingers crossed for this year. Yeah, I ask for interesting birthday presents - copper tape was on this years list!0
