You could buy your mum a nice new PC, Windows 98 is 10years old unsupported and probably open to all sorts of attacks.
You can get a cheap Dell for £299.

The irony is that most exploits/malware/virus's in circulation now would probably have no effect on Windows 98 all that much because dated and everything focus's on the way NT/2k/XP/Vista is engineered now..0

I've got a spare that runs Win98se with AVG free, Spybot, Superantispyware and Zone Alarm firewall.
The firewall is an outdated version, the last for win98 ver.61-744-001-en.Move along, nothing to see.0
