Is it safe to give dogs Ice cream/lollies?

Hallo,
Just wondering if it was safe to give either of those to dogs as given the heat over the last few days, I've had more than my fair share of ice cream goodness and it was a bit unfair to see the pup looking up looking all hot and stuck on cold water with me enjoying my cone.
Any inherent dangers from giving a jack russell some of mr. whippy's finest?
Cheers,
Indy

Hi
I dont think it is dangerous but from experience from my jack russell any form of milk product gets the same reaction as if he was lactose intolerant (dont know if this a general doggy thing or not) but he has a dippy tummy because of it. So i wouldnt suggest giving him one but i dont know if it does any major damage otehr than that - i would think a cone with the remenants fo ice cream would do no hamr though but again im no expert.
I would suggest getting a kong suitable for your pup, block the end with cheese etc (their is a hole at one end) then filling it with chicken stock - homemade or mix and freeze it - then give it to your pup. My jack loves this and its the same as giving him an ice lolly just chicken or beef flavour. You could always drop some dry food/biscuits into the kong to before adding the stock for a bit fo variety for him/herMaking Changes To Save My LifeCurrent weightloss - 2lbs (week 1)0 -
When its hot I give my dogs home made ice lollies or ice cubes made from live yogurt and fruit wizzed up in the smoothie maker, the favourites at the moment are mango or banana, its funny cos our cocker will eat fruit from our hands no problem but my weimy turns his nose up at it, little does he know I sneak fruit into his ice lollies

Thanks for that, the stuffed frozen kong sounds easy enough to do so I might try that.
Might also make some home made lollies, that seems quite eay too"Control your money, dont let your money control you" - Easier said than done!

My old dog always used to get the very end of a whippy cone with some ice-cream in and never had any problems, he really looked forward to it when you had an ice-cream.
My current dog loves playing with a couple of plain ice-cubes when she gets back from a walk when it's warm out, she bats them about on the floor before killing and eating them. I know she loves yoghurt though so I might try making some yoghurt ice-cubes for her.

you can actually buy ice pops for dogs - they're ham beef and chicken flavour (make sure you don't get them mixed up with your own!) - they're called pup pops and i got mine from tesco. that said, i'd assume they're just stock really, so you could just make your own.0

Giving your dog anything with sugar in is not a good idea unless you enjoy running around after a hyped up dog!
Dogs also become lactose intollerant once they have been weaned so it may give him dioreah.
Stick with plain ice-cubes if you feel the need to give him something and just make sure he has lots of water available.
Dogs only sweat through their tongues and pawpads so if you are worried about him overheating pop his feet in a bowl of cold water for a minute...

Sounds good - I will look out for them - and hope my greedy son samples them first :rotfl:0 -

Ice cream or ice lollies just make my dog throw up - useful if ever she eats something she shouldn't (but hasn't happened so far).:j Almost 2 stones gone! :j
