Chnage of ISP

Hi all
hoping that I might be able to get a quick answer here before I blow my top at my old ISP.
Situation was that we were with Pipex for home phone and broadband. All working well but as a matter of course I was doing my Money Saving bit and found that Talk Talk were better for us now. Back in April I contacted Pipex for the MAC code to migrate and we booked to go with Talk Talk. Confirmation came through from Talk Talk that we would move on 29 April. Great - all moved over OK. I even managed the wireless move too without the aid of a safety net this time!!;)
Last night I was going through some old junk mail (or so we thought) and found a letter from Pipex saying that the MAC code hadn't been used and our account was still active with them???

Questions:
- Would it have been possible for Talk Talk to move us to them without the MAC code?
- Is there any way I could have checked that everything had moved properly?
- Is the fact that I'm still picking up e-mails from my old Pipex account the reason why its still active?
- What can I say to Pipex if they deny that the move has happened? How do I go about proving that we have moved?

1. If you've moved to Talktalk LLU ie. you no longer pay BT for anything then the MAC wouldn't be used. Even if it had you still should confirm with a backup letter that you want to close your account.
2. As above
3. E-mail accounts can stay active for years after you migrate depending on ISP.
5. If you didn't actually cancel your account somehow then you would be liable anyhow.“I look like Spiderman at a funeral”~ Karl Pilkington0 -
Yep my dad got stung by this as well. You had to have explicitly gone through actual cancellation with your old ISP (no matter what Talktalk may have told you, in my dad's case he took their word that they automatically inform the old ISP). Talktalk don't use the MAC. As far as Pipex are concerned they'll not have been told you've cancelled with them and are therefore still a customer and presumably been charged as such."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"
