Help and advice required regarding British Gas

Just got off the phone with a similar problem.
I too have a dual rate meter and thought I should be getting E7. However, they lump the two readings together and charge so much for the first X kwh and then another rate for the rest.
Even the chap on the phone couldn't work it out, so how I'm supposed to know what they'd done is beyond me. But it seems that I pay "an average" charge based on the supposed three sets of readings! :rotfl:
So, the Tier 1 is reduced, Tier 2 is reduced and I don't get any 'night' units.
Could you bill be something similar? BTW, what I pay bears no relation whatsoever to any advertised price.0 -

Not understood?
If you have a dual rate meter, what are the three sets of readings?
Could you be on an Economy 10 tariff?
With my dual rate meter(I am not on Economy 7 - see above post) my total is treated as any 'normal' tariff. This is 225kWh per quarter on tier 1 and the rest on tier 2.
So if on a bill for an exact quarter my night(E7) meter has used 200kWh and my day meter 1,000kWh, it is treated as 1,200kWh and I pay for 225kWh on tier 1 rates and 975kWh at tier 2 rates.0 -
Cardew.....
Sorry, not three sets of readings. I've just re-read my post and I can't think what I was trying to say either. Perhaps I was counting it as tier1, tier2 and E7.
BUT

My bill works just like this, but I also get some sort of reduction based on the fact that I "should" get E7. Like I said, I can't figure it out and neither could the advisor at British Gas. It appears to be some sort of averaging effect based on the amount I've used at E7.0 -

If they think you should be on E7 tariff, they should bill you as 225kWh on tier 1, 775kWh on tier 2 and 200 kWh on night rate."Now to trolling as a concept. .... But they don't. There isn't three sets of tariff (perhaps the 'three' I was trying to get across in my original post), British Gas man said it something to do with how the supply company read my meter.0 -
If you have storage radiators call and request to be billed as a 2 rate meter ie with economy 7. If not you should just get the tier 1 and 2 like Cardew.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0

We don't have storage rads, but we were using timers to put the washing machine, dryer and dishwasher (on it's rare uses) into the E7 bracket.
I'd be interested to know if I can get it moved to E7, but I'm getting quite cheap leccy as it is, so I'm tempted not to fix that which isn't bust.0 -

For flat rate you need one rate (or 2 rates added together as per Cardew's position)
For E7 tariff, you need a dual rate meter as you said you have.
You don't need separate meter rates for Tier 1 & Tier 2 - it is simply the first specified amount consumed in the quarter is at Tier 1 (in Cardew's example, 225kWh) and the remainder at Tier 2"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Well, what a surprise, nothing has been heard from British Gas  , so I am about to write a long letter to Energy Watch.
I'll keep you all informed.....In spite of the cost of living, it’s still popular :eek:0 -
I've had Energywatch on the phone today. The lady said that she'd spoken to British Gas who stated that I "did not" have a 2 rate meter...... so she now has all the details (serial number and all) so we wait with baited breath again.....In spite of the cost of living, it’s still popular :eek:0
