That is what I have heard and they take forever to do it and make a big song and dance about it.superscaper wrote: »Not to mention they apparently don't do very much going by other people's experiences. And slightest sign of difficulty they simply reinstall.0 -
I've now got the computer at home, and found the following;
USB is dead
The machine will not connect to the net via my network
I've tried to transfer both AVG and Nod32 via a SD card, both fail to install
I can't restore the PC via it's recovery partition, and when trying to copy this to DVD it fails when verifying disc1 or 2, then won't let me burn the 2nd disc.
I'm very close to completely wiping the HDD and installing XP from a spare retail disc I have, but then I will probably have to use my license as well.0 -
Can you do anything if you boot into safe mode?:doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

I can't work out which key puts it into safe mode, I've tried f8 which works on most PC's but it has no affect on this machine.0

Try the following:
- Click Start, Run and type MSCONFIG in the box and click OK
- The System Configuration Utility appears, On the BOOT.INI tab, Check the "/SAFEBOOT" option, and then click OK and Restart your computer when prompted.
- The computer restarts in Safe mode.
- Perform the troubleshooting steps for which you are using Safe Mode.
When you are finished with troubleshooting in Safe mode, open MSCONFIG again, on the BOOT.INI tab, uncheck "/SAFEBOOT" and click OK to restart your computer

I am not sure about this since I always had the windows working. What about copying the hidden ".wim" to hard drive, create new partiton, copy wim to new partition then reboot and see if you can see both partions. Is it a wim file?0

are you sure it is a software problem and not a hardware failure? Is "his" license not stuck to the base of the machine?0

Try starting the computer in safe mode and running spybot, AVG etcAdvice..........usually offered by someone recycling their bad experience:A0
