Calling home from France

What is the most cost effective/cheapest way to call back here to the UK with a UK mobile. ?
Buy a local sim card
get a calling card
get a tesco payg sim
or what ???

    Which uk network are you on? How long will your calls be? Will you be receiving calls? What about texting?
    All these things affect the answer!

    T Mobile, Tesco and all the other operators I have payg sim cards.

    Voda are probably very good for payg, but contract phones would work out cheaper.
