There must be a catch here somewhere.

Anyone point it out to me before I do something stupid?

Looks like a cashback deal, you pay the £30 a month or whatever, then claim the money back during the year at certain times. lots of people take these contracts out. You just have to be organised enough to claim within the requested time frame0

no catch as far as i know, we now have 4 of these phones floating around the family!!!0

Had a chat with the online help person and he just said that its £0 for the whole year if you claim the cashback.0

Where did you find the deal in the first place ginaflowers?

This is one of many similar cashback deals around on the net.
They work fine as long as:
the retailer is reputable, stays in business for the period of your cashback claims and honours the cashback smoothly.
you remember to make your claims as per their guidelines.
Have had a couple of these deals, even with the dreaded onestopphoneshop, and have had no problem getting the cashback. With most, you are able to reduce to a lower tariff after a qualifying period, often six months, which means you actually end up making money.
The only problem I had was with Three. Couldnt get a reception so the deal was worthless. Ended up taking them to the small claims court to get all my money back. I wouldnt therefore touch Three.
Take a look at http://www.!!!!!!.com/12monthsfree.asp?free=12
They compare the free line rental deals around. Remember to check for cashback through affiliates as again you can end up actually making money from the deal.

I've always used pay as you go so I have no idea about these things - at the end of the 12 month of free line rental (through cashback) do you get to keep the phone and not have to keep the contract?0
-
The phone is yours after your initial contract.
The contract rolls over until you request to cancel it.
So a contract is a minimum of 12 or 18 months, it does not end at that stage unless requested by you. This is usually done by 30 days notice in writing.0 -
Three is a big cheater.Last year me and my friend recvd the particular bills (in the cash back month) very late.Intrestingly my another house mate mobile bills arrived with in 7 days of bill date and mine wasn't.Even on the interent the bills was not posted ,No reason was given by 3 when we contacted them.My friend lost his entire cash back as the time limit was 30 days(The Link) and bill arrived after 25 days .Luckily my time limit was 60 days so got the refund. That's why when you leave three they openly say you will not get the cash back from retailer ,extend the contract straight with three for direct half line rental.0
