You'll need to define chit chat. And you've hundreds, possibly thousands, of anonymous members to maintain some sort of control over, which won't be easy. Personally I check those threads two or three times  a day and to get the extremely (to me) useful info about Monmouthshire, Virgin store 16 and the new Virgin online 16, Furness, Nottingham, etc well worth the extra seconds reading or passing over posts about RSs that I don't have or have chosen not to have.
SS2 is a patient soul but I'd reckon leave their thread to identifying new issues or changes of rates to issues currently listed within their thread.

The change to the new forum (with lack of the ability to create subtitles) means that it's even more difficult to identify what product forumites are discussing. For that reason a dedicated thread or clearly defined entry on here if members want to discuss the merits of putting stamps on envelopes etc might make the efforts of SS2 less onurous - especially in these times of lots of flux.

Anyway - doubt many care that much.
And who allocated you the person to decide what is chit chat and what is relevant to people? It's quite simple if what's posted on other thread is of no interest to YOU keep scrolling as clearly from posts on the other thread it is of interest to numerous other people!!

    Brilliant.

This is just about the self serving attitude that frequently comes across on here.

I.e. who cares how much extra work SS2 has to do to extract new accounts and changes.

    I give up too...

It would be useful to know SS's attitude to this, he's the important person you are concerned about on his behalf. If anybody is accustomed to wading through and discarding then surely he is!
Anyway your proposal has got off to a modest start, though it does mean that I now have an additional thread to check.

The only RSs that I have with a variable rate that hasn't been reduced so far are with Chorley BS and Nottingham BS. The latter has apparently committed to hold fire, but for how long? Waiting on Chorley but expect not good news.

From post #1 on that thread:
I am happy for people to use this thread to discuss the regular savings accounts on this list.

    Over and out for me.

So you keep saying but keep coming back!! Point is it's not for you to dictate to the rest of us so just accept other peoples opinions and scroll past what's not relevant to YOU.

The purpose of this site is to help people save money. So we'd prefer people to keep MoneySaving discussions on the main boards on topic. Taking them off-topic can be confusing for new users, while in discussions linked to from the weekly email, guides, news stories and blogs, it makes it especially difficult for people to find the information they want.

If you've been asked to keep a thread on track but this hasn't happened, off-topic posts may be removed. We encourage community, but not thread derailment. The Forum Team prioritises its time on the MoneySaving boards and not the ones dedicated to off-topic discussion: The MoneySavers' Arms and Discussion Time.

Please can you try and keep your comments relevant to the thread you're posting in? There are other forums you can post general discussion such as above to.

We can't have an individual thread for each RS. The basic information "for people to find the information they want" is in Post 1. It is very detailed, comprehensive and it is kept up to date weekly. In spite of that it is not always enough and people have queries. It has happened that some useful information about a new account or a change is announced the day after SS has brought Post 1 up to date. So questions have to find a home somewhere. We've got two threads going and the answer to those queries could be in either one or not at all. Hopefully people will look for answers in both threads; to be sure they will have to. They may have to 'quote' a relevant message, so they are obliged to ask where the quote is.
I'm afraid I just can't see how the two things can be kept apart. I think the very low number of people who have made your point indicates that it's not a problem for the great majority of us.

Totally agree - lets ideally keep one.
They really aren't that complicated they all need one thread each - some have odd rules but we can cover them in one place! Often there is a flurry on one account - and then another - so all these separate threads soon lose their usefulness anyway.
