  • Fascinating to catch wind of the new 10% consistent saver account from Halifax. I at present have a general saver with them, at 7% intrigue. I called them today to inquire as to whether the new 10% rate would apply to it and was let it know would not, I would need to close it and open another one. On the off chance that I did that I would lose enthusiasm for the a half year I have officially spared. So not an especially decent arrangement for me and most likely others!

    What have I missed here?

Nothing. I can only assume the OP is 10 years too late. Well that's how long it's been since Halifax offered a regular saver @ 10%.

...the latest MSE bug, which results in the "1." vanishing on any numbers ending with a "%"? ;)

Interesting to hear about the new 10% regular saver account from Halifax. I currently have a regular saver with them, at 7% interest. I phoned them today to ask if the new 10% rate would apply to it and was told it would not, I would have to close it and open a new one. If I did that I would lose interest for the 6 months I have already saved. So not a particularly good deal for me and probably others!

Well I had my letter from Holmesdale regarding my regular saver issue 3 which matures on 11th of October and they have offered me the pitiful Skipton easy access at 0.80% :(
And not the H reg saver 4 with the 2.10% interest rate I was hoping for

I was wondering if I could circumvent this by opening an issue 4 in OHs name but I rang them up and both of the regular savers, 4 and 5, listed on the website are now for issue 3s maturing before the end of September

I have to ring Skipton after October 1st to close the issue 3.

In the meantime I also realised that my Chorley Festive fund is also maturing in October and there is no regular savers listed on their website now. I have the other regular saver paying 2.75% with a £350 maximum a month so at least that's something.

But by October there will be 3 of my regular savers closed - TSB, Holmesdale and Chorley. TSB is renewable but with a lot of effort to get an appointment late enough in the day..

Oh I must have the date down that my account opened. Right - no need to worry then :D

My mother-in-law has a Virgin Regular E-Saver Issue 7 account, which matures on 20 October. She would like to open a follow-on account for future monthly savings but, as previously noted here, the only worthwhile Virgin account currently offered is the Regular Saver Issue 13, which has to be opened in-branch. Not at all helpful when (although we live in a major town) the nearest Virgin branch is more than 20 miles away - and she is both elderly and disabled!

Clearly, Virgin has little interest in maintaining customer loyalty and reinforced this when I phoned to query the position - I could almost hear the 'advisor's' shoulders being shrugged as he tried to fob me off by explaining that these accounts are driven by 'customer demand'.

Coincidentally, I read today that a Virgin plane has completed its first flight using biofuel. I wonder when one powered by a mixture of hot air and bulls**t will take off?

Despite the recent base rate increase, there are precious few regular savings accounts open to all that are readily accessible.
