Can I return DS's blister-causing sandals?

I bought my 4-year-old some summer sandals for £10 from M&S last week (the open-toed sporty style). After two days he had developed blisters on both feet where the toe straps are and one blister started bleeding. He hasn't got extra-wide or narrow feet so I was a bit surprised about this.
I've always bought Clarks before and could kick myself for not doing it this time, but luckily i could afford to buy him new Clarks ones today for £14. Don't know what I'd do if money was so tight that he had to keep them.
Would it be reasonable of me to try to return the M&S ones? They show a little bit of wear from the 2 days because they were worn mainly in the garden, so I couldn't pass them off as a straight return. I have the receipt.

I'd give it a good try anyway!
The only thing I think you may come up against is that you've been responsible for fitting the shoes, as opposed to their staff doing it, but I think if you politely stand your ground, you'll probably be ok
I returned my dd's school shoes to a local independant shop after 1 day's wear, as they were hurting her ankles, and they were happy to refund me, but this may have been because their staff did the fitting.
Good luck!0 -
I have had a replacement from Clarks halfway through winter for bootsd that ended up huirting my DD's ankle even though the rest fitted her fine.
I doubt you'll get any refund from M&S for ill fitting shoes that you should have either checked correctly, or gone to a shop where they would fit a child's shoes properly.
So, for an extra £4 next time you'll know where to shop.;)Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Don't forget to take your pin to stick in him to produce tears at the appropriate moment;)0 -
I had to take some shoes back years ago that hurt my dd, she was only about 3 at the time. I told them they were`nt fit and could`nt expect a 3yr old to wear a pair of shoes in.I got my money back.0

Unless there is a fault which has caused the shoes to rub then they dont actually have to do anything as they didn't fit the shoes.
You might get lucky though and get a nice customer service assistant.Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0 -
Sadly Quackers is right, once shoes are worn unless they are faulty they won't be refunded or exchanged unless the sales associate decides to be nice, however if they have made really bad blisters you can ask that they investigate and "test" the shoes, if you are still unhappy (or they won't do it!) there is a specific depatment which deals in shoes via trading standards and they give obviously an impartial view, but it is last resort! (I work for a big shoe company!) Good Luck xAugust: £149/£150

M&S are getting a lot harder about refunds as too many bring things back and expect refunds without there really being a legit reason. You may have to speak to a manager, I wouldn't refund shoes that rubbed.Dooyoo £10.40/40, TopCashBack £17.19/30, Valued Opinions 50p/£10, Swagbucks 0/£20, Ebay £15/£250

I took a pair of boys leather strap sandals back to clarks because of the same reason. The assistant told me it was because he hadn't worn socks with them, and gave me a lecture about how any shoe would rub without socks. I let her carry on and then pointed at the sales picture behind her with children running across sand dunes in exactly the same pair, without socks!
I got my refund.0
