Has anyone found any £10 fares ? I thought that all fares would be either £5 or £10 , but I've tried a few searches now and always get the 'normal' fares.0 -

Still pondering this one ..... but which company do you recommend buying from?
1st great western?? as they don;t charge booking fees or postage???
It really makes no odds - just choose one that doesn't charge fees or postage.
It is sometimes cheaper to book with the company that operates the trains on your route but apart from that they charge identical prices and should have identical availability.0 -

they didn't all have identical availability, but they did all offer the service I wanted tho the prices did vary??? I went for 1st great western in the end, I waited until they sent me a seating plan, as it was important I booked the five seats together. Some of the combo they offfered me meant we'd all be sitting seperately, which being one adult and five kids I wasn't totally happy about. The downside is that by waiting the only place i could get five seats together in in the quiet carriage:rotfl:
I collected the tickets today from my local station so we're all ready for the off next Monday :j0 -
Hi,
I have been looking at train fares from London to Nottingham for the Sunday 6th June early afternoon,
Is £21 advance fare to much to pay? this is with East Mids Trains
I am going to wait a while to see if I can get a cheaper fare with Megatrain for Friday 4th June Nottingham to London, I have been checking Megatrain for Sunday 6th but they don't seem to run on a Sunday.
Thanks all

Hi,
I am trying to use Southern Railway's 50% off offer for booking on-line in order to travel from Margate-to-London Victoria off-peak return on Tuesday 6/4/10. However, I don't seem to be able to find a 50% off offer and the best, which I can find, is currently £18. Could someone please advise me whether this is correct or whether I am doing something wrong.
Thanks0 -

That is why you cannot take advantage of Southern's offer.

£17.90 is the best. With a railcard is it?0 -
Dear All,
I've just spent ages trying to get a cheaper return ticket from Aberdeen to Preston for one adult & one kid with a railcard. I didn't have any flexibility with dates and times to try and make it cheaper. Trainline came in at £76ish including the booking fee. So I tried other ticket booking companies & combinations of ticket types, splits etc and each one I tried got more expensive. So in the end I went for the straight forward return booked via trainline; in this instance the "shopping" around wasn't worth it; fortunately I don't mind raking about on the computer looking for bargains.

Well I fear you must have been doing something wrong - ANY site should have sold you a straightforward off peak return at the same price as thetrainline but without their booking fee. Indeed you can buy it at Aberdeen station on the day of travel.
What the problem was is difficult to say - I've just checked the fare on FGW with no problems at all. It showed the return fare you found - plus some advance singles which on the date I selected would have been cheaper. All on the first fares page.
So I'm as puzzled as you are.0 -
I travel each week for work from Birmingham to Leeds and normally split ticket from Birmingham - Leeds
Birmingham - Derby
Derby - Chesterfield
Chesterfield - Leeds
Walk on fare is £90 - I pay £50!
Last week, the train manager checking my tickets informed me that the regulation was changing this May to prevent people from split ticketing. The reason? The train operators have caught on that there are a lot of people split ticketing to save money and they want to continue swindling us out of as much money as possible while offering no improvement to shoddy service. He said something along the lines of the regulation change meaning you would need to get off the train at any station where you have split your ticket. I haven't found anything on-line relating to this change - is anyone else aware of this and if it does happen, will there be any workaround?0
