We like Mornflake Superfast Oats (wholegrain cereal, all the bran, no added sugar or salt - or so it says on the pack
).
I usually buy them in Home Bargains, last time they were 28p for 500g.
I like to add sugar or sultanas, OH likes Golden Syrup.
1 cup of oats, one cup of water, one cup of semi skimmed milk, 4 minutes in the microwave.

can anyone recommend a way of getting it from packet to bowl without making the kitchen look like there has been a snowstorm  :rotfl: ?

Porridge......... I HATE IT...........a remnant of being forced fed it as a child....ughhhhhhhh. My husband loves it, soaks it overnight in a little water then cooks it in the microwave for a couple of minutes on high, then adds a little cream and some salt............and eats the horrible stuff............

This is what we buy from our health shop. Not powdery, just good wholesome oats - lovely. Haven't tried the soaking overnight method but will tell chef to try it;). He always makes the porridge in this house. Whilst in Scotland this summer got a taste for Glayva on my porridge - good for the cold winter days (if you are not driving!):dance:Jesus loves you:j Everybody else thinks you're an idiot:rolleyes:0 -
We love porridge in our house (well 3 out of 4 of us!!).
We make it in the microwaveusing water and usually add bananna in afterwards which is scrummy.
Cheap healthy and yum!0 -
I love tesco own brand. I will try it tomorrow with salt only ever used water. How much salt should you use.0

Depends on how much salt you put in the rest of your cooking. It's the only thing I add salt to as I don't like it, so I use literally a pinch, no more. But if you tend to use a little salt in your regular cooking, maybe you'd like a little more.
Of course, if you like it without, then that's healthier so I wouldn't bother!May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
I love porridge but DH is not keen. however it's very good for lowering cholesterol so he now dutifully eats it every day. I don't know if it's that or eating a Benecol yogurt every day but in just one month he reduced his cholesterol from almost needing medication to acceptable (8.3 to 6.4).It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0
