Twins insurance?!

Hiya,
I would like to take out an insurance against having twins so I wondered if there is anybody out there who has done this.
The probability is quite high - my OH has twin brothers, his aunties are twins and my mum has twin aunties on her side. I already have 1 child but I'm expecting again and have a funny feeling....
Many thanks for your kind help.
I'm posting this on Insurance and Families boards as not too sure who will know this.

It's best to regret things you have done rather than those you have not...

Hi,
I wouldn't have a clue about this I'm afraid, but I would have thought that if you're already expecting, then it is too late to take out the insurance?0 -
All I know is that is has to be taken out before the 1st ultrasound at 12 weeks but that's about it.It's best to regret things you have done rather than those you have not...0

I am sure you can, as long as you do it early enough in the pregnancy, but you will pay through the nose for it if there is a high risk (as there is in your case). I googled for twins insurance and got this page so it's obviously out there!Signature removed for peace of mind0

Try cornhill Insurance - they still do cover for this...............0

i thought twins was carried down the mothers side. Identical twins aren't carried down the genetic line but fraternal are. And fraternal twins only come about when two eggs are fertilised at the same time - therefore it has to be on the mothers side that this would happen not the father - so you may have less of a chance than you think - correct me if I'm wrong.DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY

Me and Mrs Sonic are thinking of trying for a family in the near future. Twins run in her family and they are due to hit this generation. Wisely (we think anyway) we are looking to take out Multiple Birth insurance to cover some of the additional cost in the event that we are blessed with more than one of the little blighters.
Has anyone got any experience of these matters, and can recommend one that has a good premium to payout ratio?0 -
Hi sonic
I've moved your thread here to keep like topics together, hopefully it may help a little too.

Twins may be carried in the female line but if you have ever needed any treatment like Clomid then that can increase the risk of fraternal twins.
As this is a tablet rather than invasive treatment many people forget to consider it."This site is addictive!"

I'm no expert but I would think it is just as likely for the genes for the production of twins to be carried on the paternal X chromosome. Just as a man may inherit blue eyes from his mother, he could inherit the ability to ovulate twice in a cycle (obviously not having ovaries means this cannot be expressed!!), and pass that gene to his daughter. That would account for the notion that twins skip a generation.
The maternal X chromosome can account for twins being produced in every generation."Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0 -
i thought this thread was a joke, but on further inspection it seems you can get twins insurance!
I was amazed, but i suppose it could be quite sensible!!0
