  • don't park next to a fire hydrant.
the car arriving first at a 4 way junction has right of way (after stopping)....after that i make it up as it goes along
hardly anyone understands if you flash your lights (to let someone out) ...if they do they're probably a tourist.
on the whole the american drivers are more patient and courteous but if you are in the wrong lane approaching a jam at a toll booth it's a nightmare

don't park next to a fire hydrant.

    a few other peculiar ones

In San Francisco you have to park with the front of the car parking down the hill with the wheels pointed inwards towards the curb.

green light when turning right ...often the light will be green but as you start to turn the corner you can find the pedestrians are crossing on the "walk now" phase ....they have rigt of way!

and if you are in the snowy regions in winter, you have to be careful to follow the signs about plowing or else you will be towed away

With the 4-way junctions I've never ever known someone to go out of turn ...its a real delight not to see the free for alls you see in the UK

Most of the decent hire places will either throw in Sat nav, or you can get it as an extra, well worth it, your not handy with a map.

In this country you get bogged down in Farmer Smith's field, or stuck under a low bridge - out there you end up in Death Valley !!!

just noticed this ...while we did get Sat Nav free once from Hertz a few years ago, Dollar were charging $15 a day in Vegas last month!!!!!! Cheaper to download the USA map for your own Tomtom than to hire in the USA.
