not driven in Florida but have driven in Las Vegas and it is very easy - infact i would say because of the road layout it is easier than the uk. Im going to new england in 3 weeks driving from new york to boston / cape cod.

If you're just driving to get to Disneyland at the beginning of the holiday and back at the end, I'd see if there is a shuttle running - I know that there is one from Orlando International (MCO).

Other than that, I find the US relatively relaxed to drive in, but then again I'm used to driving on the right.

Hi, my husband and I now go to the States every year and have found driving so easy that we are doing a 3500 mile road trip this year - can't wait.

Our first trips over were to Florida and we would not have managed without the car. It gave us so much freedom to go where we pleased. Our friends did not hire a car and had a nightmare with buses to and from the parks etc.

All the cars are automatic as well so you don't have to think about gears - its just accelerate and go which makes things a lot easier. Get the car and enjoy yourselves and explore. It was the best thing we ever did.

asandwhen, I hope you have a great time in New England. We went at Christmas and drove all over Cape Cod right up to Provincetown from Boston. The drive was beautiful.

Driving in the States is great, I have driven in Florida including Orlando quite a few times. Roads are a lot better than here, no roundabouts, you can turn right on a red light if nothing coming. Bit strange when you first get in the other side of the car and drive on the other side of the road but you soon get used to it.

It's easy to drive from Sanford to Disney, a couple of years since I last did that drive but it was straightforward and easy to find.

Remember to keep some change handy for the tolls

hi, we did a 6 day road trip out of Vegas 2 years ago, and i was desperate to have a go at driving, even though i'd never driven on the other side of the road before.

on the second day i had a go, and i hardly let my fella behind the wheel after that. the trouble comes when you get home and drive out of the airport carpark on the wrong side lol

    you'll be fine.

Easy peasy lemon squeezy, because you're sitting on the 'wrong' side of the car aswell.Tuck your left foot away and you'll be fine.

As above, the trouble is you come home and stall the car at the barrier to get out of the airport car park because you forgot about the clutch...:rotfl:

Agree with all posts - it's a piece of cake. Driving in the USA, for us, is far easier and less stressful than driving on the continent. Drivers far more curteous and roads great - no roundabouts! We have been travelling to the USA for nearly 20 years now, Florida and West Coast California etc and driving is ESSENTIAL.

Get yourself a good road map to help travel around and/or look at www.mapquest.com to prepare route in advance. Are yu doing a fly drive or booking car yourself? Whichever, there will be shuttle buses at Stanford Airport to take you to the car rental place. They will give you a simple map with basic directions of how to get to key points - International Drive, Kisseme, Disneyworld (Disneyland is in California so you would have a long drive :p ). Again, check out a basic route to your hotel/motel from Stanford Airport before you go. Enjoy!!

sanford to disney is a straight forward drive. coming out of the sanford airport there are a few junctions to negotiate with traffic lights and then you're on the toll road until you reach the turn off for disney. driving in america is easy. roads are well signposted and if you are concerned the hire companies do have sat nav as an option. friend is just back and they now also do a pass card for the tolls, if you plan to use the toll roads a lot. only thing I would say to watch for is the I4 when there are lots of lanes the americans dont have a lane etiquette...they skip from lane to lane, sometimes at the most unexpected times.

PS, have a look at some of my previous threads re driving in the USA; these may help.

    Cheers

I've always thought that the road signs in the US - once you come off the Interstates and Turnpikes - are very poor. They also rely on you having a basic knowledge of the geography in the area as they often refer to North, South etc (just like the London Underground !)
