PS if you don't have one already remember to get an RCD - a residual current device - this protects you and your son when you cut through the cable, as working outside means you're more likely to get a serious shock (standing on 'earth') so need better protection. They can normally be found for less than a tenner.

my son did just that cut through it in 2 places we got a adapter from wilkos for 1.99 and the mowers lasted another 2 years,
buy the way if you did want a new lawn mower and the gardens only small argos has a hover for 14/99 and one with a grassbox for 19.99 and they both were given 8/10 for preformance

Also if the mower does not work after you have fitted the connector, change the fuse in the plug as this will almost certainly have blown
