But its better than waking to the news with a jolt. We shall see how it is come the depth of winter!!!
I like the idea of using a dimmer on a timer too......
It is reasonable to deduce that someone with a propensity for being vulnerable to a lack of sunlight might also have this reflected in their Vitamin D status. So studying the information at that site and following through with increasing your Vitamin D intake either by buying a Facial Solarium, Getting out at midday on sunny days where this will prove effective, see calculator for full details or using the amount of Vitamin D supplements suggested by the Vitamin D experts at the http://www.cholecalciferol-council.com/ If you give yourself a months trial and I will be very surprised if you don't report back very positively indeed. My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

Hello!
Sorry I neglected to keep checking back on this thread. However I am still happy with my clock and find it does make getting up on the dark mornings more bearable - I am pleased with it. SAD was never my problem (no more than anyone else who finds the winter miserable anyway) so all that stuff kind of went over my head a bit.
The wake up period is 30 mins. The "sunset" is also very relaxing. Shame I never got it when it was on offer with the points at Boots, that would have made it better value, but still!0 -
Hi, I just managed to get a Sunray Lumie reduced from 59.95 to 39.95 on boots.com. I brought a few boxes of tissues on BOGOF and toothpaste on 3 for 2 to make total 46.58 to get free delivery and then used a discount code £10 off a £45 spend (see code board) to make the total 36.58 inc. delivery.
Plus 555 points
Now I can't wait to see if it works.

Evidence is now bieng taken seriously that SAD and depression are linked to vitamin D deficiency check out how much vitamin D you had yesterday, you need to eat 12 egg yolks or a gallon of milk to get your quota for one day!Unless you ate wild salmon or had some cod liver oil with natural not synthetic vitamin D Seven Seas is synthetic! You cannot generate enough vitamin D in your skin unless you use a sunbed/shower until next april or take a supplement of cholecalciferol Vit D at around 3000iu which will stop you from getting a host of other ailments.
https://www.cholecaliferol-council.com. don't think its the "light" our body is craving it is vitamin D synthesis as this has been found to be a hormone (feel good?)precursor not simply a vitamin. Are U getting enough Vitamin D in your life!?0 -
Hi, thanks for the info.
I don't have SAD or depression just fancy a nicer way to wake up in the morning.
However you point you make about vitamin D is very interesting.0 -
One point which hasn't been mentioned in this thread is the common sense point that by using Sunrise type alarm clocks you are attempting to adjust your body clock so that it starts off the day earlier by providing light before actually waking.
By adjusting your light levels at the other end of the day you will effectively close down the system earlier and this may also help you sleep better and wake more refreshed.
From about 8pm your body will be producing Melatonin and this is what promotes sleep. If from 8pm you only use subdued lighting and reduce exposure to bright light you will be assisting this process and will probably go to sleep sooner and sleep better. If on the other hand from 8pm until you go to bed you use bright light (or a sadlight) then you will be moving your bodyclock forward and find it harder to go to sleep and harder to wake up.
The average egg contains 20iu so 12x20=240iu vitamin D although this is better than nowt it is a long way from the 3000+iu you will use today. Similarly I don't think shokadelika is aware that milk in the UK ISN'T fortified so although a pint of UK milk does contain a trace of vitamin d, 8 traces don't amount to much when compared with a daily deficit of 3000iu.
Although it is impossible to overdose on vitamin d through cod liver oil it is possible to consume too much vitamin A this way, so do check the total amount of vitamin A you are getting through other sources before taking more than the recommended amount of codliver oil. Cod Liver Oil Liquid - St Clements contains 967mg(approx 3100iu) of retinol and eMedicine - Vitamin A Toxicity : Article by Mohsen S Eledrisi, MD ... suggests The recommended daily allowance for vitamin A is 5000 international units (IU) for adults and 8000 IU for pregnant or lactating women. My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

A single serving of liver provides up to 40,000 iu of vitamin A!.Many health conscious individuals avoid cod liver oil and other foods rich in vitamin A because of concerns about vitamin A toxicity. Yet, according to the Merck Manual, vitamin A poisoning is rare. In adults, vitamin A toxicity has been reported in Arctic explorers who developed drowsiness, irritability, headaches and vomiting, with subsequent peeling of the skin, within a few hours of ingesting several million units of vitamin A from polar bear or seal liver. These symptoms cleared up with discontinuation of the vitamin A rich food. Other than this unusual example, however, only vitamin A from "megavitamin tablets containing vitamin A. . . when taken for a long time" has induced acute toxicity, that is, 100,000 IU synthetic vitamin A per day taken for many months. Unless you are an Arctic explorer, it is very difficult to develop vitamin A toxicity from food. The putative toxic dose of 100,000 IU per day would be contained in 3 tablespoons of high vitamin cod liver oil, 6 tablespoons of regular cod liver oil, two-and-one-half 100-gram servings of duck liver, 150 grams of beef liver, seven pounds of butter or 309 egg yolks. Bodybuilders undergoing strenuous exercise can consume even higher amounts without adverse effects. You need to realise that not everyone who has polio gets or notices the late effects. Some say only 20% others more. There isn't a definite understanding of why it happens, mostly it's follows overuse, stress, accident, operation when for some reason in response to inflammation your body starts an autoimmune response in which it attacks itself.
As some of the symptoms overlap with MS which is another autoimmune condition the kinds of supplements/nutrition applicable to MS will also help slow the progress of PPS so check out http://www.direct-ms.org/supplements.html
I find ZIPVIT very cheap and the best source of high strength omega juice.
shokadelika recommends Cod Liver Oil Liquid - St Clements which I have been somewhat dubious about because of the vitamin a content however she has given me some weekend reading so I think it is likely that the myth of Vitamin A toxicity is similar to the myth of Vit D. which I find cheapest from Vitamin D 400iu - Vitamins, Minerals & Herbs - Healthy Direct (UK)
when I use Quidco to access it. You may also consider adding Flaxseeds to your cereal/yoghurt crumbles baking as it's another source of Omega 3 oils.I buy a 5kg bag from the local wholefood store (£5.75) and grind a weeks supply to have handy in the fridge.
Another moneysaving health dodge is to use the Probiotic live yoghurts as starters for making your own yoghurt. There is now sufficient research to justify their use to boost immunity however you don't have to buy more than one to start your own neverending supply. More yoghurt making threads Yoghurt Recipes Yoghurt Maker
The only addition I would make to the DirectMS supplement list is Serum Carnitine Levels 2002 which has been shown to aid fatigue in PPS/MS/ME/CFS if taken in large enough amounts. See Zipvit for UK cheapest also instead of using expensive Green Tea supplements I've changed to drinking Green tea for the (epigallocatechin-3-gallate) powerful antioxidant derived from green tea. Tesco do Clipper Green China Leaf Tea 125g£1.19 but if you have a chinese supermarket near you you may find you can buy 500g for £3.50ish
Apart from ensuring your body's immune system is at optimum levels the only practical advice is not to overexert yourself and to pace activities so you never ever get overtired. This is easier said than done when you start realising it's taking you longer to do things you used to do without thinking about. My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program
