Based On Reply Do You Think This Is Fake

I decided to treat myself to a Lacoste polo shirt and searched Ebay. Found a seller who was selling a lot of shirts BNWT at a reasonable (not cheap) price. I decided to risk a message asking if genuine and here is the reply:

"I have sold over 200 of these on ebay with myself and my husbands accounts. We have never had a single complaint in all those. I buy them as genuine articles from a uk supplier but i must admit the price i pay suggests they may not be but they are extremely high standard and i cannot tell the difference next to ones i have bought from lacoste shops"

Do you like me believe this is another way or saying not genuine without actually saying so in order to cover herself?? Appreciate views

I know a large percentage of clothes on Ebay are fake but can you sell in this number if you actaully feel they "may not be " genuine. I thought when creating listing it states : only list this item if you KNOW it to be the genuine article. Well this seller does not seem to KNOW that it is authentic and genuine or not!!!

If its on eBay assume its fake. Yes it sounds like they are politely telling you its probably a copy.

Usually they are near identical anyway, after all they mostly come from similar third world factories, so if you dont care about the actual origin then you probably wont be unhappy.

i would say it was a fake. At the end of the day its up to you, i've seen lots of good fakes, but then again i've seen lots of bad ones, there are a few guys in my local on friday wearing fake lacoste and they are bad fakes as the croc is either the wrong size or has bad stictching around it. some even have the croc just stuck to the shirt which ends up peeling off!

Buy half a dozen from Cotton Traders for the same price as one fake Lacoste.

Best case scenario is that the sellers think it may be a fake. Not sounding good, is it.
  • I agree: they're almost certainly fake, but probably decent quality ones. Lacoste polo shirts are among the most commonly counterfeited items, but there are cheap rubbish fakes and convincing fakes: in some cases the latter may actually come from the same production line as the genuine article, the only difference being that they leave the factory stashed under workers' clothes rather than via official channels.

    Fake Lacoste? on eBay?

Surely not after all the improvements to the buying experience this can be happening...?!!!!

The sellers' response is telling you that they know it's a fake, but a good one, without actually stating outright "we are selling fakes".

It still amazes me that people try to buy designer goods through eBay. I'm not exactly wet behind the ears about eBay, but I still would never consider buying anything like that.
