Strange error message

Over the last few days I've been experiencing a strange error message when accessing this site, but I'm not sure if it's a problem with my 'puter/browser or the site itself

This is the message I'm getting ...

400 Bad Request

Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand.
Size of a request header field exceeds server limit.

Apache/2.0.52 (Debian GNU/Linux) PHP/5.0.3-0.7 Server at forums.moneysavingexpert.com Port 80

I use Firefox, if that's any help, and the only way I can clear it is to completely shut down all Firefox tabs/windows and even have to reboot the 'puter sometimes!

Can anyone tell me what's causing it please?

Webopedia says it's to do with punctuation. What you do about it though......dunno!

"You may not be authorized to access the web page, or maybe it no longer exists." !!!

Hmmmm well that's all very strange because I'm not actually "typing" in any address but just clicking the usual links to navigate around the site

Is this on the main site or on the forum? Are there any particular links it's happening with?

And is anyone else getting the same thing?

Hi Andrea, it's only ever occured in the forum and I've never had a problem with the main site itself. It only really started at the weekend, and I mentioned in one of Fran's threads that I'd had intermittent problems with the site, but I just thought it was my PC playing up.

I've just remembered the first time it occured now was when I'd pressed "thanks" on somebody's post and it seemed to take a while to load the page but then came up with that error message. Subsequent times it's happened though don't seem to have any pattern to it, and I was just navigating between boards and threads

Now interestingly enough, when I C&P'd the message above from the last error page I got, a whole page full of code appeared when I pasted it into notebook, presumably hidden in the black bar that occurs under the message. I cut this out for the purpose of posting here otherwise it would have been far too long but this code contained the word "thanks" numerous times amongst various numbers and symbols. I don't know if that's of any help to you?


Edit: BTW, while I'm here I just want thank the team for sorting out the site slowness problem :T ... not had a problem with that for the last couple couple of weeks now, even when the email tip has gone out! Well done!

(am I tempting fate by saying that though :rotfl: )

I knew I should I have kept my big trap shut about the site being back to normal cos it's been a bl00dy PITA to get on tonight :mad:

Between 4-5pm was virtually inaccessible, and the last hour has been virtually impossible again too, with everything just timing out or can't connect GRRRRR :wall:

I'm starting to get paranoid now as it only seems to be me having these problems again

Thanks hun, I was seriously starting to get paranoid about all this thinking it was just me!

Doesn't help that it's been a crappy sorta day anyway for various reasons and now I can't sleep so wanted to come on here for some distraction and couldn't get in :mad: :wall:
