Cheapest energy

Do you know which is the cheapest way of heating, gas or electricity? I used to think it was gas but after hearing on the news that gas prices are due to go up 50% this year I'm not sure. Is there a website which compares different types of heating. The ones I've seen just compare suppliers of a particular kind of energy.

There are lots of websites that give comparisons, many though are simply not kept up to date.

Another big factor is the efficiency of your boiler if you have gas, oil, lpg.
The efficiency of a boiler can vary from 50% to 95% so this can almost double the cost of heating.
In general terms mains gas is still the cheapest unless you want to invest a huge amount for a Ground Source Heat Pump(GSHP) whilst Electricity(on a daytime tariff) is still the most expensive.
Storage Heating on an Economy 7 tariff is another option that is viable - particularly for a smaller home with, a couple who are out all day - if you take into account that it does not require an annual service.0
