I have an LG system which I bought many moons ago and apart from the DVD being noisy (as in a high pitched whine which you cant hear when it is actually playing anything) it is fine. Loud enough, good definition.
    Hackable to become multi-region

But as for this particular model - I know not, but it does tick the "cheap" box

Oh man, the sound is THE most important factor.

For the price most people are willing to pay for a surround system, they would be better off getting a decent pair of stereo speakers; cheap surround systems make a lot of racket, but they rarely sound good.

Indeed - unless the OH says money is.

Realistically I would be looking at reading some reviews to see what bang you get for your buck.

    Somewhere like this perhaps
  • Once your Mrs. hears a the surround sound during a movie, I'm sure all will be forgiven. If you want to go down the all-in-one route, I would stick with Sony or Pioneer. I've heard various all-in-one systesms from LG, Panasonic and Samsung and most sound awful. Sony on the other hand can sound quite good and very effective. I would always advocate separates or a package that is at least upgradable such as the Yamaha AV63 but ultimately it depends on your budget, what size/style of speakers you can fit in your room and so on. Honestly the diffence between a cheap system and a properly setup separates is night and day but if you're on a limited budget, I would stick with Sony or Pioneer. A decent AV receiver also gives you more flexibility should you add other components to your system such as Sky HD and a games console. If you just want surround sound from DVDs then an all-in-one is a good albeit limited solution but if you want surround sound from games, Sky, PC etc. then a separate amp and speakers is the way to go. This needn't cost the earth either, amps start at as little as £130 and speakers around £150. Don't discount second hand either as plenty of people are upgrading their equipment due to bluray, HDMI and so on so there are plenty of bargains around.
